foxy05 got a reaction from Amadia in Updating SSN after Naturalization
    Hi there,

I just want to share some info and experience that might help when you update your SSN after being Naturalized Citizen of US. I went in my local SS office and surprisingly there were only 3 of us. They people at my local SS office were nice and they congratulated me for becoming a US Citizen  I told the security personnel what's my purpose so, here it is. Since all of us have SSN card already, we don't have to print or bring any form. You have to fill up something real quick in their kiosk and it will give you a que number. The SS officer called my number, and asked me what's my purpose so I told him I just recently became a US citizen and i'm here to update my SSN status. So he asked me for my DL, SSN card, and my naturalization certificate. He put me on oath before he started asking me some question about my recent information on the file. He handed back my naturalization certificate and DL. He took my SSN card to dispose it properly. He gave me a receipt, it's more like a statement saying that all original docs were given back to me after my visit (exception of SSN card). I got my new SSN card in 10 days. Hope this helps!

    Bring the ff:
    SSN card
    DL
    Naturalization Certificate or passport

    Important thing to remember.
It's better to update your SSN status after 3 weeks of being Naturalized, I think it has something to do with updates in their system. ( I read some people who went there after 10 days and their still not updated and they were asked to provide their passport.)

*Process might vary based on your location but I supposed it should be standard.

    Hi there,

I passed my interview today and they will mail me my oath letter. I didn't ask when they will mail me my oath schedule because I was so relieved that the interview is over and I was recommended for approval.
My appointment was at 12pm and we got there around 11.20am and saw bunch of people just got done with their Oath. You could see the burst of emotion. I checked in and waited on the 2nd floor.  I got call around 12.20pm and got out of the room around 12.35pm. It was quick interview. I brought essential documents that was asked on the letter and things that proved my marriage. The officer was nice and pleasant. She only asked my state ID (DL), Green Card and Passport.
Hope everyone is having a nice day. It's getting warm here in PNW and we love it.

    Hi all,

I’m going to start by saying THANK YOU SO MUCH to VisaJourney community. Thank you for sharing your experiences and knowledge. Like most of us here, we started our immigration journey without any idea how to start. We stumbled upon VisaJourney’s page and decided to try it out. We were a bit skeptic about it, but it turns out to be one of the sources of information (aside from USCIS website) we always  go to.

My oath ceremony experience was wonderful. We are impressed by the efficiency of the Immigration officers in USCIS Portland, Oregon. We got there around 1pm and there were quite a bit of people at the security check, but we got through quickly. We started on time @ 1.30pm and got done by around 2.30pm. First, they called the applicants( the ones who will take their Oath), and we went downstairs and everyone took a seat. It seems that everyone was a bit tense, maybe we were all hoping that nothing will go sideways at the last minute (you never know), but it all changed when the officer said something like "You can smile, you're at the end of the process, reason to be happy".  After that they arranged our seating, and brief us with the Oath ceremony process, then they called our family and friends. It was packed. If I'm not mistaken 54 new citizens and 13 countries represented. Everyone in the room got emotional especially when they showed a video of US immigrants from the beginning up to now. It was a wonderful and a meaningful day. I registered to vote after the ceremony. They didn't have passport application that day.

So far, we’ve been lucky that our applications have been smooth and fast. The processing time for our N400 was 6 months. I think it was mostly luck and attention to detail. It also depends on how intricate the paperwork. We gathered every information and documents we could find that were necessary, then sorted it out in order. We put our paper work together in such way that it will be easy to read and locate for the person who’ll review it. We thought, you know, this person receives tons of paperwork everyday, so why not make it easier for him/her. We added color coded tabs and cover letters. Have lots of patience, and ask for help.  I consider this forum as a community, we may seem strangers to each other but we share the same goal, to live the American dream, to seek the betterment for ourselves and our family.

May it be positive and negative experiences, both are considered valuable lessons for those will come after us. Hope for the best to all.

It is all in the 100 questions. What is religious freedom? How many senators? What ocean is on the east coast? I can't remember the other 3. As soon as you answered 6 of them correctly, they will stop. BTW, its all modernized. They won't have a piece of paper to write your answer.

No, she didn't. On the way there, I thought, if the IO ask me for a passport photo, I will drive quickly to the nearest Walgreens which is 5 mins away.
