This is FAR from the first petition of this type that's been attempted.

My petition was at CSC in 2012/13 and it took 9 months to NOA2. Vermont was the quick one then. Texas wasn't even doing them. Just the way it goes, unfortunately.

Also bear in mind that if you decide to go through with your idea of a non-binding celebration of some kind that there's also a chance that that might be the time you get denied at POE because of the suspicion that you're planning to immigrate (especially if they ask you your intent and you answer that you're going to attend something that may sound a bit shady to them--with tuxedo and wedding ring in hand, no less!). Think what a drag that would be if everyone but the groom showed up for the big, expensive party.

Good photo and much nicer envelope indeed. It would be hard to mistakenly open that one. And notice it is a bit crumpled but will be just fine in that condition.
Uh-oh... I see something that will worry corvusheart. It says "Do not pack it -it must be hand carried"
It means don't put it in checked luggage. You can pack it in a carry-on bag that will go in the plane cabin with you. It does not have to remain in your hand all the way across the Atlantic.

Not a 6-month wait before you can work. After you arrive on K1, get married, get the marriage certificate and apply for the green card (and employment authourization doc and advanced parole doc), it will be about 60-90 days to get the employment doc and then you can work while waiting for the green card. OR if you get married first and then apply for the spousal visa, it will probably take longer overall, but once you get the visa, you can work as soon as you arrive.

The income viable for the AOS must either be US based, or at least income that will continue from the same source once back in the US. So it appears that any Canadian income he currently makes will not be useful, unless it continues afterwards.

It was more to put the thread back on topic. As you said in your original post, you're not very close with your parents and I am extremely close with mine. Our experiences are different and I'm not asking about whether I want to stay in the US as my long term goal or if I thought that through. That wasn't the question or the focus of my topic.
I will admit, your first response could have been taken wrongly not just by me but by other posters as well. You were just wanting to give your two cents, and as I said I appreciate that. But your assumption that most people who move to the US are only doing it temporarily and will eventually go back in Canada is not factual. And the way you said it was a bit condescending like "are you sure you want to stay in the US? You must've not thought that through because Canada is much better and has more options." There are posters here who have made huge sacrifices to leave Canada and live in the US with it not being a short term idea. So, I can see why it wasn't taken the right way when what you meant was to just give your side of the opinion.
Thanks! That's exactly what I'm thinking... it is far from now, but these last handful of years have gone by so fast that I'm afraid it's not sitting on my radar when it should be.
Perhaps it's a cultural thing but my parents moved my grandparents into our home and were their sole caregivers until they passed. When that time comes, I want them to be taken care of and not just visits. But it worries me about the health benefits should they need more care like my grandmother.
Thank you. I will definitely question them as time goes on to see if things change. As mentioned in my other reply, I also think it's a very cultural thing. My parents have friends but if they had a choice to have time with their friends of time with their kids, they would chose to be close to us. A lot of my parents friends are our family members.

"Free speech" doesn't apply to privately owned message boards. You can say what you like here as long as it abides by the terms of the TOS. Others can also respond to you in ways that may oppose your posts as long as they abide by the terms of the TOS. It's give and take.
But, as some friendly advice, I would recommend that as a recent joiner you might tone down the rhetoric. First, it alienates potential allies and helpful people who have meaningful advice. Second, this process costs what it costs, and takes as long as it takes. It's not a money making venture, and it isn't intended to torture people. It's an imperfect system, but it does a decent job most of the time. Lastly, bringing a relative to the States is a privilege, not a right, and can be helpful to remember this. We are free to marry whom we choose (with a few restrictions) but the US is not obligated to allow the entry of any non-US citizen. Please take what I say in the manner I intend it -- not as criticism, but as advice. I can see this thread already beginning to spin out of control and it needn't.
