So it's Obama's fault the post office lost your petition? Lolz. He's only one out of a long line of recent presidents who have supported gutting spending on federal agencies, like the post office and USCIS. Are you even sure it got lost? What information has USPS given you?
If it is in fact gone forever then YES you should cancel or put a stop payment on your money order and send a new packet. This is why the guides say to make a complete copy of the petition packet in case something like this happens.
Chill out and try again. Chances are this is not going to be the last time this immigration process frustrates you.

We got our NOA1 on June 4th, 2012 - a total of 221 days later and we are finally APPROVED!!! I was seriously thinking they forgot about us or something!! My heart goes out to all my fellow Junebugs who filed through Vermont. I feel your pain!
Funny because I've been checking like a maniac - pretty sure I checked 4 times already today and just decided to check again before going for a nap (like I can sleep now! hehe) and here is what I found...
On January 11, 2013, your I130, IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN was approved.
Sooooooooo happy!!!!! Ok, now to share the news with my family and start focusing on our next steps.

For the initial petition (before the consulate) all they require is that you have met. You do not have to be engaged, you do not have to show them any relationship proof, you do not have to prove that you even talked to each other.
For the consulate, it shouldn't matter how long you knew each other as long as you provide enough documentation and convince them that you have a real relationship. They won't know how long you knew each other before he proposed unless you tell them. If they do not ask, do not volunteer any information. If they do ask, then just tell them the truth.

WaitingforOregon reacted to bsd058 in What is going on with the Vermont Service Center?
18 months? No. About 2-3 months behind their new 6 month goal. But you should have been (or will be) redirected to NBC or a field office since you applied after Aug 15, 2012.
It happened because of the increase in I-130 apps sent into Vermont over the months of March-June. Now since they are sending most I-130 apps to NBC (MSC) Vermont can catch up on I-130 apps while the NBC and field offices are taking approx 3 months to approve paperwork (depending on the office it is sent to).

You are not currently a legal resident. You came on a K-1 and failed to marry in 90 days. Filing for the I-130 will get you legal here, but if he pulls the petition, you're not going to be able to stay. What's worse is he can prevent you from taking the child out of the country. You're kind of between a rock and hard place. I'm not sure why you're so worried about him having your password, my wife and I share our passwords and hide nothing from each other. Its a matter of trust between us, that we trust each other to have each other's passwords. I guess its a matter of trust that he doesn't have your facebook password to. But certainly wouldn't want to make a huge fight about each other having or not having those passwords. Why you're making something that should be so trivial become such a huge issue, possibly ending your marriage is not a good sign. Have you two considered marriage counseling? We're not born knowing how to have a good marriage, we need to learn to have a good marriage. And if you didn't learn from your parents or life experience, marriage counseling can be a good step. But it will only work if both are willing to take steps to improve how you relate as a married couple.

It also depends on who is filing the I-130 and who the relative is that you are filing for. Both I and srey answered as if you are a US citizen filing for a spouse; all other visa process take longer--in some cases years longer. If you are not a USC and/or you are not filing for a spouse or minor child, you will likely need to wait longer.

WaitingforOregon reacted to N-o-l-a in Appoved CR1 visa but want a divorce
Well, you need to divorce him and rather quickly. Being that you've not immigrated to the US yet, would it not be better to just stay put in Canada and find another job? I know that is hard, but being stuck in America without a safety net and then perhaps facing immigration issues is going to be pretty stressful.
His behavior is beyond abnormal and totally not ok as I'm sure you've realized. You've got all the red flags and you need to pay attention to them and never speak to the man again, really.
A real man provides for his family to the best of his ability, tries to be as independent as possible, and treats his daughters with respect and an air of fatherly protection.
You deserve a decent man who will treat you, your children, and his own children with respect and love. You also deserve a partnership in which both people try equally hard to make it through life together. Don't settle for anything less.

WaitingforOregon reacted to EmilyS in Changing CR1 to k3
the only way a k3 would be issued is if you have a pending I-130, since you no longer have that and your I-130 has already been approved k3 is not an option for you, plus even if it was it wouldn't have gotten you that far since they hardly ever issue it anymore, I applied for both CR-1 an K3 and I'm on a CR-1 route since my I-130 got approved before I-129F. So you're only option is to find a co-sponsor and forget about the k3.

Your husband will need a co-sponsor. If I understand correctly the co-sponsor needs to make enough on their own to meet the threshold, NOT a combination of the two people. I may be wrong on that part but someone else can correct me if that's the case.

Completely normal and your lawyer should know this. Nothing is sent to NVC until the I-129F is approved, which if you are at Vermont Service Center, seems to be taking close to 7 months at this point.

WaitingforOregon got a reaction from sunflower123 in Vermont Service Center delayed....
For those of you wondering about your I-130 and why it isn't approved yet, it's because the Vermont SC is currently delayed. I called today to check the status of our I-130 form and the rep told me they are behind, the last case they have completed is from May 14th.....now, when I called 3 weeks ago it was also May 14th, so the guy said check back in the next couple of weeks it should have moved. He also mentioned they update their files once a month. Still, so discouraging to hear the same date!
It's hard to see others approved in less than the average time and you are still waiting! Happy for those who are approved, just hard to wait on the "unknown" - especially since we are expecing our second baby and need to make plans!
Our NOA1 was on June 4th....so almost 6 months. Still within "normal" processing time I guess, but I had hoped it would have gone a little faster, seeing as we both live abroad.
