Yup. At this point I would ignore them.

speaking of rioters.  I had a coworker tell me yesterday that the reason the riots took place... Sit down for this. Because the police wanted black people to riot so it would make them look bad. He said that is why the police did not move against rioters. he said they should have immediately started arresting people.

This same guy would have screamed racism if the police had touched a rioter. Funny how the narrative is given and repeated.

I love how the news are totally ignoring or outright discounting how much the protests probably played a part in this whole escalation of cases.

Reading a lot of the news from around the country and here locally in MI, it appears a lot of the new infections are with demographics a lot younger and tied to the reopening of bars and dance clubs, and possibly related to all the first amendment gatherings.  It would seem those are the “petri dishes” at least with this second wave.

    Snip

Another resident, Mitchell Erickson, said he regretted calling 911 when two black teenagers cornered him a block away from his home, held a gun to his chest and demanded his car keys. Erickson said he mistakenly handed over his house keys, and the frustrated teens left him only to steal another car a few blocks away.
Been thinking more about it,” Erickson said in a text message to a reporter. “I regret calling the police. It was my instinct but I wish it hadn’t been. I put those boys in danger of death by calling the cops.”

If anyone is put in physical danger, they instead vowed to seek help from the American Indian Movement, which was founded in Minneapolis in 1968 to address systemic issues of poverty and police brutality against Native Americans and has been policing their own communities for years.

I thought we have already discussed this many times...

There are likely at least 10-15 times more covid cases than we know of. This brings the actual rate down to the 0.2-0.4% range. That range is of course skewed by the unproportional number of deaths in older people. Within the rest of the population, only one out of several thousands of people who get covid will actually die from it. I'm confused as to why we keep revisiting this and why anyone would put an article out there with stats that we have known for over 3 months should not be looked at the way they did.

I would agree if there wasn't still a supply issue, but the problem is that many people are taking masks that are designed for single use and using them multiple times. They even asked us to do that at work. Mask use in general would decrease viral spread (to some extent), but the inherent issue is that if masks are not used appropriately, they can actually cause more harm.

Our work policy going back years was never to put a mask back on once it's removed, because you risk contaminating yourself with everything that was previously in contact with the mask. Now all of a sudden, they are telling us to use 1 mask for up to 5 days. I agree it may help decrease the spread of Covid-19, but it puts people at risk for a whole lot of other respiratory diseases. Everything the mask has ever filtered remains in the mask. There have been no studies done on the safety of this, and if you were to call any manufacturer, they would recommend against using a mask more than once.

It's less of an issue for casual use, where the masks are less likely to get contaminated with multiple pathogens, but it is still a risk. We shouldn't be reusing mask, but unfortunately the lack of availability necessitates either doing that or not wearing one. I try to conserve my non work masks for areas where there are the greatest risks.

For the record, I definitely plan to wear one on vacation. My vacation is planned to be around 35 days and with many flights inbetween, even if it was for no other reason(and in a situation with many people around in relatively close contact, I'm not saying it can't be helpful - for both sides), I wouldn't want to jeopardize any leg due to getting even mildly sick. So I will definitely do the responsible thing when it's warranted(now, if I'm out in the open air with other people 6 feet or more away from me, it likely won't happen).

Exactly, and that was successful. The recent upticks are for the most part and in most places relatively mild.

The whole point of what I wrote is that not wearing a mask doesn't automatically make one "irresponsible", "rude", or "selfish" and that kind of mindset is no more than a wrong, grave, generalization. There is no science that really points to one side being more right than the other.

This report is a bit dated, but I think most of it is still relevant.  Except for the name, the BLM movement/organization, not the idea, is simply an anticapitalist movement extending from the Occupy movement.

BLM is a cult with a radical extreme left ideology on pretty much everything, way beyond just "black lives matter". Couldnt support them in a million years. I find that most who do, don't even really fully understand what they're about.

Uh, should people not be allowed to live life for god knows how much longer? There are risks involved in living and not just staying in your house every day(plenty of risks to that, too). We went to a resort here that opened a few days ago just so we could stay there a couple of days, yup, we "insisted" it was time to get out of the house, even my wife with all her preexisting conditions doesn't really care anymore. It's time to move on, safely, and carefully. Now, I do agree if you're in a resort and they require masks then you should wear one. We did that. But honestly we don't do it unless we have to. Next month we are also travelling to Florida, Mexico, and Tanzania(long story, don't ask how they go together - they just do). We will wear masks when we have to, we will stay as far away from people as we can, we will sanitize when possible. That's all we can do, but life needs to go on.

And I think people who want to automatically assume everyone who doesn't wear a mask is either selfish or rude or both without taking into account the different things we have discussed here before as far as reasons why one might opt not to wear one, nor the fact some people medically cannot wear one, is prejudiced as hell and should look in the mirror before they generalize and judge others. I don't judge those who wear it out in the open even though they look like clowns in a big experiment testing the obedience of sheep being willing to look like idiots because they were told to, so those who wear it shouldn't judge those who don't, either. To each their own.

it would make sense a steroid would help as they suppress your immune system. but they can also have some wicked side effects. my wife has to take prednisone from time to time but she usually avoids it if she can

Had my first indoor dine in experience in 4 months today. Was pretty normal. Was just surprised only the cups were disposable, but no complaints here

Most important is to look at what kind of cases. Is it more/less asymptomatic? more/less severe? more/less deaths?
