squirrelisan got a reaction from Q2018 in Best way to send AOS Package
Here you go, from the horse's mouth. There are numerous tips on package assembly, but I think this is the one you were asking about specifically.
In preparing your packet, please take note of the following: Do not use binders or folders that cannot be easily disassembled. Use ACCO fasteners to hold together thick or bulky applications or petitions. Two-hole punching the top of the material for easy placement in the file is appreciated. The use of tabs assist in locating items listed as attachments. The tabs should be placed on the bottom and not the side for ease in filing. Avoid using heavy-duty staples; instead use ACCO fasteners or heavy clips. Avoid submitting originals unless specifically required. Avoid submitting oversized documentation when possible. http://www.uscis.gov/forms/forms-and-fees/general-tips-assembling-applications-mailing

    Hello,
I started gathering paperwork for my own G-325A and had the same issue with the addresses. So I remade this into a word document, in the same format as the current G-325A. You can go in there and use this as a template, and remake/reformat it to suit your needs. Figured this was cleaner than writing it in by hand, and save somebody else some time in making it themselves. I don't know who are the experts here, but please check to make sure this is OK for use as a supplemental sheet for the G-325A. It's in word 2003 format. Comments? No prob man. Yea take a look at that list NLR put down. It pretty much has everything people possibly put in their I-130.
Please remember this is only part 1 of 3. Part 2, the IV/AOS package (that goes to the NVC) deals with money. Assuming your I-130 gets approved, you then need to show you could actually support your wife on your own. Via tax return filings showing income, or assets, or if not, you need to get a US citizen sponsor. This is so that your wife doesn't go on welfare and become a burden to society as soon as she comes. You (and/or your sponsor) will be financially liable if she does receive benefits. Part 3 is the interview which is usually pretty easy and usually a formality (for those that don't have signs of being fraudulent).
But not to confuse you, if you're currently living outside of the US, I think may be eligible to file via DCF (direct counselor filing) which means you file your I-130 directly with the US embassy in the foreign country you're in (versus sending the app to one of the USCIS service centers). Typically this route has been faster (at least when I was doing this) With you having a mailing address in the US, but living elsewhere...not sure if you should/could.
Can somebody smarter than me weigh in on DCF eligiblity?

I've been out of the game a while, but hope the below is helpful...
Check out this thread regarding addresses. Ryan H is a long-time poster and very knowledgeable. Mailing address on I-130. Physical addresses on G325a so it seems...
    http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/510492-physical-or-mailing-address-for-i-130g25a/
When you apply for the I-130, you'll submit a bunch of evidence. But you may not get an interview until 9 months later, and built up more "evidence" of your marriage since that time. This is probably saying when you go to your interview, your wife will need to bring not only a copy of the I-130 and all the evidence, but the new stuff also. Don't assume the embassy has all the evidence in your original I-130 as things get lost sometimes.
What you need to focus on is getting as much supporting documentation to your marriage that you can find. If you search the forums enough you will see all kinds of things people submit. My package was literally 1.5 inches thick out of fear, but most don't need to go that far. Your wife is in a "low fraud" country and wouldn't sweat it too much. There isn't some set "point system" where document1 + document2 + document3 = minimum point score. It's a holistic review, from an actual person. Most people who are married for a short amount of time, or in particular circumstances will have less (or different) documentation than others, but your goal is to give the reviewer as much info as possible to avoid the dreaded RFE (request for evidence) which isn't so bad, except it adds time (perhaps months) to the process. USCIS places more emphasis on documentation showing the both of you sharing financial type things. I would probably group evidence into these categories (my personal opinion only) from strong to weak...but by all means include everything. Search for "I-130 cover sheet" and you can see what people submit: Strong children, lease/mortgage, assets, loans and obligations, bank/stock/equity/etc, health/life/car/whatever insurance... Credit cards, Cell phone, utility bills, other bills that have relative smaller obligations (maybe bill for expensive durable good, fridge, bike, etc) Other documentation may include receipts from vacations taken together, hotel receipts, boarding passes (not ticket receipts), Pictures of you together at various places, various times, with various people. Affidavits from US citizens (only) attesting to your bona fide marriage Club cards in both your names xmas cards, letters addresses in both your names Weak I don't think the order is that important, as long as its in some kind of order. Check the application though, they may want the newest first or something. But make sure you don't have any gaps in the dates. You don't want them wondering where you were for 6 months. Also for the G325a I would make sure the dates match up with any visa stamps in your passport. Not sure on this one.

    Your lawyer is wrong.
You need to include evidence of a bona fide marriage or else you risk getting an RFE (Request for Evidence) and causing major delays to your petition.
At the bottom of this wiki are some great ideas for a evidence... Affidavits run very low on the evidence scale: http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/EZGuideSpouse
I suggest reading that and this: http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/How_Do_I_Bring_My_Spouse_(Husband_or_Wife)_to_Live_in_the_United_States%3F
    and this: http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide1
And then think really hard about if you want to keep the lawyer or not

if you have a bona fide relationship, have submitted all the documents proving this and have dotted all your i's and crossed your t's, then you don't have to spend another second thinking about this
most of the denials came from not enough evidence or a belief that the relationship is fraudulent
it is NOT the luck of the draw, it is the due diligence of the petitioner, the accuracy and completeness of their petition
ap is a totally different issue altogether

    Just my 2 cents.
Your goals are admirable and you are confident that your methods are legal and that no personal information can be extrapolated from the data you collected.
The failure in your goal of this data reaching as many people as possible was in your approach. You came into a public forum masked with the name "Tyler Durden", addressing you and your posse as "we" with creepy little catch phrases and a somewhat arrogant attitude. You created a public poll and sought out the needless opinions of as many people as possible. You rushed to get your data out as soon as someone objected to it. You produced a video declaring your message in a manner in which most people would not relate to.
You were essentially standing in the middle of a room, waving your arms in the air, wearing a mask, and shouting "Look at me! Look at me! I have the power to change your life". It was too much hype.
Had "Tyler Durden" come onto VJ as "John Smith", posted the data and said "Hey guys, look at what I found" you would have attained your goal of reaching as many people on here as possible. I assume the first thing someone would have done was look up their own number to verify the validity of the data. They may have then checked more against the USCIS website. Word would have quickly spread. People would have worked their magic and a few days later charts and graphs would have been plastered all over VJ encouraging discussion and debate of any possible observations and conclusions. These conclusions may have then been passed on to elected representatives. This outcome would have been more in line with your overall goals.
I personally am very interested in what you are doing and think the discussions could have been both meaningful and beneficial to many, including myself. As you are well aware, VJ members account for between 5-10% of the total I-129F population. I'm sure you could provide me with the exact number. I am doubtful that you could have found a higher concentration of people interested in what you have to offer on any other website. But you blew it. I think your arrogance prevented you from attaining your goals.
My suggestion to you is the next time you take on an "Anonymous" project, try to be a bit more anonymous. It could been everything you wanted.

From what I can make out of this situation the moderators are probably just being as careful as possible since they can not verify the source, content and method used to collect the data. There are all types of potential pot holes and they don't wish to risk the site being cought up in things they may not completely understand. The data seems to be the key concern and not us wanting answers and change by USCIS. I haven't seen any objection to the core idea that folks should stand up for themselves and peacefully protest the government when there are frustrating issues like this.
I think a reasonable compromise that addresses both sides and concerns is that data not be posted here. If it is available at another source or if members have it themselves then that is beyond this site, and at the liability of individual people to decide how to proceed and work with the data. If there are aggegate results pulled from the data then that may be something reasonable to post back here. I suspect that VJ would be more than willing to act as a 'news' source and 'report' on what people are finding.
We all know how to find the member in question on other locations so this again seems like a reasonable approach.

squirrelisan reacted to Penguin_ie in My fiancee wants to get married in her country the next day after we get approved K-1
    I wouldn't risk it.
Firstly, in many countries, a church marriage IS legal.
Secondly, even if yours is not, the embassy/ immigration at the airport/ USCIS later when you try to adjust status may THINK you got legally married (by talking to friends and family in the area, seeing your Facebook status, or photos or the way you refer to eachother as husband and wife etc) and deny you, because you must be unmarried to use the K1.
    I see two save options:
    - Have a "going away party", maybe even with a small blessing by the priest at the restaurant/ home you have it- no mention of wedding, no wedding dress, no weddingy invitations etc.
    - Use the K1, get legally married in the USA, then AFTER that, as soon as she has AP, return for a visit to her home town and have the big wedding blessing and reception.

squirrelisan reacted to del-2-5-2014 in Why did you file a K-1 over a CR-1?
I originally filed a K1 (approved but visa was denied in Lagos) because I've lived continously in the US since 1986, so all my friends, family associates, are here.
The denial was a blessing in disguise because it forced us to get married in Nigeria (on the same date that we had originally planned on so just a change of venue and I guess guests though soem USC traveled to Nigeria to attend the wedding).
It was a blessing because I was abel to do a formal marriage engagement, introduction, marriage and reception ceremony in our culture. Her entire sibbling, my sibblings except for two knuckleheads were there. Most importantly her Mum and my Mum were at the ceremonies.
So knowing what I now know I should just have gotten married in the first instance.
Let me step up to a soap box for a one second.
Thsi advice applies to me too, please put immigration second and your relationship/future plans first. You two decide how you plan your future and then see immigration will play into it. So if getting married amongst local relatives in a traditional Ghanian ceremony is important then don't even consider K1. The alleged time saving of a few months will pale in comparison to a lifetime of happiness in doing things in a traditional way, important to Africans.
Just my opinion but I woudl recommend to get married in Ghana.
    Good luck.
PS: I die a little every day because my new young Wife is not next to me here in the US but at least she's in my house in Nigeria with my Mum and my Sister (still in the same city as my in-laws) but it's not the same. It's an odd way to start off but faith holds it together.

This is a DIY site, so most people here do everything by themselves, with the help of the Guides on this site and asking questions in the forums.
A lawyer/ visa filing service can be useful if you have a complicated case (criminal background, previous overstay, lots of red flags), or are just not comfortable filing out lots of detailed forms. Keep in mind in the latter case, you may not need a lawyer but just a filing service- they tend to be cheaper and often faster (looking at cases here where people have used lawyers, they tend to slow down the process quite a bit).
