Tiff&Babs got a reaction from Unidentified in k-1 Visa Questions - Interview [merged threads]
I definitely wouldn't mention this as it can be a red flag that you are marrying for citizenship and don't plan to establish your domicile in America.

I'm going to send you a picture of my package of evidence that my fiance brought along during the interview.. As everyone says it's best to front load as the CO may have made their decision before the interview occurs. In our case the CO asked for specific information during the interview and gave a second interview date. Although they didn't even look at the requested information during the second interview. Ghana is a hard embassy and of late many people on VJ have been denied.

Once you have the EAD in hand, you can work. Apply for the AP at the same time as AOS/EAD. It will be free when filed with AOS and will be a combo card with the EAD if you apply. It will allow you to travel before you have your green card (you never know...and getting your green card can easily take a year).

CR-1 gets a two year green card upon entry, whereas K1's have to AOS.

Do you want to be with a person who takes your life not seriously at all? I mean you are together for three years, you both went through the trouble of filing for K1, you quit your job, bought a ticket already for crying out loud! And she gets a cold feet now?? I am sorry, but she sounds very immature.
Probably the best bet for you is to start looking for a job in your country again and forget the whole thing.
I am not sure about "love" when her action speaks a very different tune than her words. May be she is not the marrying kind.

After your visa is approved, you will have about 6 months to use it. Then you will have 90 days in which to get married. That gives you 9 months to plan a wedding.

You said you have 3 kids, right? You'll need to make a minimum of $34,888 a year to be the only sponsor. This depends a little bit on how old they are, if they are older than 21, then the minimum income is lower.
Be aware the the process of immigration is going to cost thousands of dollars as well - filing fees, medical fees, plane tickets, new driver's license, maybe driving lessons, etc. Also, a person who comes on a K1 visa is ineligible to work for the first couple of months, but even on a CR1 visa, your spouse might find it difficult to obtain work. You have to prepared to financially and emotionally support this person in your house for let's say a minimum of 6 months. That can be difficult on a relationship.
It is great to be in love, but without thinking of the logistics, you are setting yourself up for failure.

I'm glad to hear that you are planning a trip to Nigeria, as you need to meet in person before any applying for fiance/spousal visas happens. You mentioned that you two don't have a lot of money. Just keep in mind that the visa process is not cheap, and it doesn't end with just the K-1/I-130 application. If everything goes through, you will need to apply for AOS, ROC, and ultimately naturalization (if he wants to become a citizen). Take this time to get to know your guy and his family in person. Start saving up, and definitely read up on the requirements on VJ and the Nigeria forums. You'll be in a good place if you do that.

Tiff&Babs got a reaction from Salar123 in Tourist visa application for in-laws???
The applicant must sign the form. You can not circumvent the law. This is the information from the link the previous post. If you sign this form yourself you will be misrepresenting yourself and your in-laws.
If an applicant is illiterate or unable to complete the application, the applicant must be assisted by a third party. The third party must be identified on the “Sign and Submit” page of the application. While the third party can assist the applicant in completing the application, he or she must instruct the applicant on how to endorse the application on his or her own behalf by clicking the “Sign Application” button.
My solution would be to have someone with a laptop of perhaps an internet capable phone instruct them on how to sign the DS-160.

If you're directing that towards me which I'm sure you are (in addition to others) this is part of the solution to his problem. One of his reasons for not being able to travel to Ghana is lack of funds. If he sees that he can spend less money on the beneficiary's flight then he can budget for a trip to Ghana if necessary. His initial question has been answered by previous posters.

Emirates one way from Accra to Houston or New York is less than $1000. Purchase a one way ticket from one of those places to Atlanta. Drive from Huntsville to Atlanta. You'll be saving yourself about $$700 to 800.

As stated previously if you have a straight forward case you don't need a lawyer. The guides on here are very comprehensive. Follow them and if you have any questions you can post them to the K-1 or Sub-Saharan forum or the Nigeria country portal. While not lawyers, many people on here have a wealth of knowledge and experience dealing specifically with the visa process in Nigeria. They can probably offer you advice and suggestions that a lawyer can't.
