scotty2009 got a reaction from Joyoussinger in Does this mean I am banned from US for life?
I agree. And given the current situation, personal feelings (insulted, threw passport back at me, conditions in country of origin, all the hardships one went through to flee his country) - all these do not matter now that he is seeking entry again into the USA. All that matters now is how CBP sees this foreigner. OP, I suggest that you seek a lawyer again instead like you did in the past. Perhaps go back to the same lawyer you hired before.

Hello! I may have updated in another thread, but I passed the interview and got my oath taking almost a week after. I am a citizen now 😊 none was asked about my work and tax transcripts. I was not asked for any documentation except my SSN card, but the IO decided not to take a photocopy of that. I had a pretty smooth interview.

I hope we get an update. My sons and I each filed 5 years rule. We were never asked for tax documents. Both sons became citizens last month; I was in 2014.

You are eligible to work at your current job.  If you state ID or DL plus a social security card that is not annotated, you are eligible to work at another job.

Had you filed N-400 with 6 or months left on your green card you would have been eligible for free I-551 stamps on your passport until your oath of citizenship.  These would let you work a new job.

You legally travel internationally (i.e. enter the USA) on your expired 10 year green card though some countries that give a visa waiver to USA LPRs won’t accept an expired green card as a visa waiver.

I was on the same boat, I applied in July 2022, my green card expired in February 2023 while my N-400 was still processing. I have been working all this time as well and was wondering if my employer would ask me for a new green card since my file probably shows that I am expired.  I did some reading and researching and like Arken explained above, found out that your resident status does not change just because the green card itself expires. You should be fine. I had my interview last week and got approved and will take the oath next month.

My extension letter (and thus my green card) was expired by 6 weeks when I got my i-751/N400 combo ITW. By precaution, I got my passport stamped, though that process itself took 5 weeks, so it didn't really matter at the end of the day.
Unless you need to travel, there shouldn't be a problem until you can get a US passport.

    Update
Did not file tax returns for 2016 as unemployed for that year. Brought a written statement stating the same. Filed tax returns for 2019. I had the interview on Feb 7th and got approved. i let the officer know that i have not filed in 2016 and gave explanations he said not to worry and didnot ask me for any statement or tax papers for the last 5 years even though i had the documents with me.

You will NOT be asked for proof that you did NOT FILE. You will not even be asked to SHOW taxes that you DID file, Even the uploads ( marriage/ divorce) will not be asked for and were not required…just answers. And please trust me some people don’t remember dates for 4 divorces ..and all that is needed is UNK ( unknown).

They will look at your green card, review questions on the application ( name , dob etc…) ask you the civics and you will be finished a few minutes.

The issue w taxes is when there are back taxes due, then an installment agreement and IRS payments and current filings ARE required.
The issue w divorces are child support orders and any / arrears and then  Judgment and Decree ARE required.

You are MORE than ready if you can remember your ex’s first names ! ….and don’t have actual IRS levies and you don’t owe back child support on court orders.
As @Timonastated , don’t reschedule and don’t offer up unsolicited proofs.
if you have not filed, then you don’t currently “ owe “ back taxes ..
    Good Luck
  20. Thanks

Your interview notice should include the list of documents you need to bring to the interview.
Are your tax transcripts mentioned there?

I had 3 documents noted on my interview notice (albeit I was filing under 3-year rule which I thought was slightly more restrictive if anything) and wasn't asked for a single one of them, only my GC.
  21. Thanks
scotty2009 reacted to Timona in Should I reschedule my interview?
    Don't reschedule.

I wasn't asked for anything. You can request the transcript but whether they get to you before/ after the interview, when you go to interview, only volunteer what is asked. Don't get there and offer a lot that is not asked/ needed.
If they ask and you don't have it, explain. If they don't, 🤐

    Come on.
Yeah, the 21 yr old could be looking for a greener pasture, but
the 60 yr old could be looking for a FREE caregiver for the rest of his life
    and the
The so called relationship will benefit them both.
    No one is being duped.
