  1. You highlight a critical point, many people in the US seem unable to distinguish between the people living in countries where there is repression versus the people who at are oppressive in power. In the absolutist, authoritarian view of some in the west people who oppress others in the name of Islam and those who cling to the faith of their fathers ate one in the same

Thank you for brought up a such excellent point. As non-native English speaker, it really helped me to make other people see what my point really is.

  2. I don't support the local government. Read my previous post, I said, not all Aceh people are bad. I was talking about Aceh people, not the local government. And the previous poster said, "cleaning out Aceh". It did not specific talking who, it sounds like all Aceh people and that was my argument about many people are misinformed about Aceh. Many westerners think Aceh people are evil because of the sharia law.

  3. Dont play dumb. Im not talking about then, Im talking about now and im not talking about the people who are living under their radical new law im talking about the ones who are enforcing it.

You have asked my opinion and I was talking based on my experience. You said, cleaning out Aceh? What does suppose it mean? You have to be clear when you make a statement. Don't be general. Not all people understand your blurry lines words. And you have edited your replied as well.

If you are talking about sharia law, Malaysia also applied it for Muslims. Not all Muslims in Indonesia have to follow it. They gave Aceh an autonomy as part of politics deals. How was that happened? I'm not a politic professor to know everything about behind the deal. Do your research.

  4. Since they're such a tiny minority and all cleaning out Aceh would be a good start. But we both know that wont happen right?

Not all Aceh people are bad. I went there as a journalist after Tsunami hit the area in 2004. "Cleaning out" such like a genocide-like word. I went there without a hijab and no one cut my head or throwing a stone to me. There are a lot of misinformation all around about Aceh. Have you been there, by the way? There were a lot of white people went there helped after the tsunami, and they were not afraid of such things.

  5. Can I enter the consulate general with her? What do I have to prepare for us?

Do you know how to get Vietnamese visa? please share me some experience. Thank you

But can I attend her interview or stand outside?

If the embassy allowed a petitioner attend the interview then she/he would waited outside of the room. My then-fiancé ( my now husband) went to my interview, he waited at waiting room and after I got approved, the CO asked me to bring him in. He congrulated both of us. But a petitioner can't do anything to help fiancé (e) to answer questions from CO.

  6. Thanks everyone for your help. No real reason for the delay. Just in no hurry to go back to the paperwork grind. We will file beginning of next week so there are no problems. R trip to New York isn't for a couple of months, but I need to get tickets this week to get a good deal.Once again thanks. This is a wonderful site. It took us 3 months from start till she was here thanks to this site. We met another couple a week ago that it took 11 months because they waited to be contacted and get final package. They didn't even know this site existed. A wealth of info and giving people.

You're good to go then. Just remember, when you are planning to travel after you filed adjust of status, bring a copy of your NOA-1

  7. I'm guessing that's the logic. They didn't ask for the boarding pass specifically, just documentation and I provided our boarding passes and itineraries. The guy at InfoPass had said that as long as we have booked the trip abroad ahead of the notice of interview and could prove so, we should be fine. Obviously not the case.

Like others said, better to re-file again as soon as possible. That's why most members on VJ advised do not traveled if you are adjusting from visas such as B-2 , VWP or F-1. Unlike those, K-1 visa holders always have been advised to apply I-131 if they were wishing traveled out the US while AoS in the process.

  8. The original notice of interview was for the I-485, but the rejection was for the I-130 (even though we never got a notice of interview for the I-130; the rejection letter stated that we failed to submit documentation for missing the interview).

Oh okay, so the interview was for I-485 as stated for my previous post. I have never read interview for I-130 as this is a petition filed from USC for the spouse. Since you filed together (some people filed I-130 first and I-485 later after the petition was approved) then the I-130 denied because USCIS think you are failed to prove your marriage is real by missing the interview for I-485. That's why they asked your husband's boarding pass for I-130 because he was the one who file for you.

  9. Those are I-485 interviews though, that some K-1ers get waived & all others always have. We are talking about an I-130 interview here. There is a difference. Seems like USCIS doubts the bona fide marriage in this case...

Oh okay. I was assumed that when you filed I-130 and I-485 then the interview will included for those. I never heard about people got interview for I-130 and this is very rare if that what the OP meant.

Thank you for the clarification. And yes, you are right. Some K-1 holders got the interview and others were waived depending which USCIS local office processing the case and how legit the marriage it is.

  10. OP said she was studying so that does not suggest a VWP entry.

I130 interviews are rare, only when there are high fraud suggestions.

I think otherwise. Most people I have read on VJ and came here adjust from other visas such as B-2, VWP, or student visas usually get the interview. The ones that came with K-1 visas and then got the interview, that's they would suspect high fraud or marriage for immigration purpose. Because most applicants adjusting from K-1 visa got interview waived.

  11. I completely understand your point of view. In my case my Mom wants to come, she has nobody left who cares about her in France... so.

And this is what I mean regarding the OP. If you do bring them here! Do your homework and help them integrate their new country!

We don't know yet what the OP has already done for the mother. Probably the OP did the homework, or did a bit, or didn't do it all. I won't assume anything until the OP clarified it to us. It is just like a marriage, it needs two to do tango. If it worked then marriage will last, but it didn't then a divorce paper will resolved the problem.
  12. It is to us petitioner to make them feel home too.

I lost my dad a little bit more than a year ago, this is why I petition my Mom to come here. I already told her that she is going to be homesick, she will have hard times ( I went through it too). But we are planning things. She will go to the community college to get ESL classes, we are going to bring her places where she can meet people... we are going to help her to make a new life!

Sure if it's to bring them here and then... here, stay on the couch, watch tv you don't understand, babysit the kids, help for the housework... it is not going to work...

It seems like the OP from the Philppines. Most people in Asia have a very close-knit family especially in the Philippines. I did not mean people from another region don't have. But if you have read another posts from VJ, there are a lots spouses of Americans got bored even husbands/wives already provided all things they are needed.

I would never bring my mom here to be a permanent resident. Probably just for a visit. I still have a big family in my country (brothers and sisters), she never used Western toilet with toilet papers, she loves her foods and even though we have Asian stores here, that's not covered all ingredients that she used to get from traditional market. I felt horrible if she started lost connection from something she get used to. If something happened, I'm the only one she had here but she has a lot of families there and friends that will make her easier to get through.

Again, it's up to each individual. If some others don't work, I believe some others do, like your mom. I'm just talking from my perspective because I know my mom very well.

  13. I did visit her in December. I went to Jakarta. We are in the process of getting the divorce done. Her big concern now is not being able to get the K-1. Does this happen often? I told her if it becomes a problem, then I would go there to marry her and start the process from here. I'm so new to all of this... I naively thought this would be easy but it's way more complicated than I'd thought! Nevertheless, I'm in it for the long haul... we just wish there was a "guarantee" of success.

By the way.... I have also contacted my congressman who is going to investigate the reasons for denial and has promised to send a "letter of support" of sorts when she re-applies. Has anyone had any success going at it from this direction?

    D

First of all, most of applicants who have romantic relationship with USC got denied for B-2 visa. I got denied once in 2011. My then-boyfriend ( my now husband) could not visit me to Indonesia due he was an active duty and Indonesia was on the list for travel warning for military members. We finally met in Singapore after I got denied for B-2 visa.

There's no guarantee they would approved it after another attempt. The CO wrote on the paper that my husband should apply for K-1 visa.

If you are really wanted she comes to visit you and she's not ready yet move to the US then she should finished the divorce, apply for K-1 ( most of times easy approval for beneficiaries in the US embassy in Jakarta), she comes to the US, meet your family and she can comes back to Indonesian before her I-94 expired and for K-1 visa holders usually up to 90 days.

There is nothing congressmen influence can overturned decision from Secretary of Department regarding this.

  14. Adjusting Status from Tourist Visa.

Sorry for the confusion. Shared my Visa Journey and brief story in my profile signature for clarification.

Like the previous poster said, you don't have to recoloring your hair. When the form ask what color of your hair, it means your natural hair, not your most recent hair color. I did not have problem at all. I used to change my hair color so often but since my husband love my shiny black hair I stayed the same since then.

God luck for your adjusting your status and keep us posted.

  15. United Arab Emirates

Indonesia is one of most populous Muslim countries yet the government isn't imposed the sharia law since we are more secular. Though the government does not recognized same sex-marriage but the US embassy in Jakarta does. There are a lot of Indonesian-American same-sex couples got approved.

Also bear in mind that K-1 visa means you both are get married in America and local culture in United Arab Emirates won't apply to you. If you were married in United Arab Emirates then the marriage should be illegal and void because the government forbid same-sex marriage according to the sharia law. The US government acknowledged marriage laws in those countries.

  16. Just wondering if anyone here plays Ingress, and if so, what faction? I am a L10 Englightened.

For those that do not, know, Ingress is an augmented reality game you play on your smart phone (or tablet etc); you have to go out to landmarks, libraries, parks, statues etc and "capture" portals, so it is a neat way to get some excercise and also get to know places in your town.

That's nice. We traveled a lot and this is sounds very entertaining. I would love to try.

  17. I'm an Australian Citizen that has been living in the UK on a working visa the last year. My partner is American and we are applying for the K1 Fiance Visa so we can get married sometime after September. Can I attend the interview at the US embassy in London as I'm not going back to Australia and this is the country I live in at the moment?

    Thanks for your help

Most of times you can. But be sure when you filed I-129F and put which embassy you want them scheduled the interview. Sometimes, though, when you write down the embassy they would still forwarded the approved I-129F to the US embassy in your native country.

Bear in mind that if it is happened then you have emailed them and ask scheduled the interview in the country where you have spent most recent your residence at least 6 months. Many VJ users were successfully did it.
