| How much of a red flag is a 30+ year old deportation on a work visa for another country? |

Father-in-law (64 yo Filipino) got deported from Taiwan about ~30 years ago on a work visa because the company got shutdown (unsure of the reason) and him/all his coworkers got deported. He did construction (e.g. mainly flooring) and was doing this for many companies/countries over of the course of 20 years, but this was the only time he got in trouble and it wasn't entirely his fault (though I don't know if that matters). Curious, how 'severe' of a red flag is this? I know getting a B2 visa from Philippines is already an uphill battle, but just curious, if this is the nail in the coffin for his chances or if it's still surmountable to overcome?

Hi all, I've been seeing snippets about USCIS no longer auto-updating to SSA and this issue of updating the SSA about immigration status. I've looked around and read, and I think I know the answer, but I thought I would post here to make sure I'm not wrong. My wife's status changed from CR1 to IR1 during the time of filing to interview and POE. She entered the U.S. January 2025. Her passport was stamped to reflect IR1, and she received a 10-year GC card. We had opted for the SSN during filing, and she received her SS card about one month after arrival. I suspect updating the SSA about status change will only occur when she is finally naturalized, so there is nothing we need to do right now...? It seems updating the SSA would be someone who was issued a CR card then later converted to an LPR, or someone who received a 10-year GC and later is naturalized? Is this correct? TIA

| What 'supporting documentation' should my parents-in-law bring for B2 visa interview in regards to financials/income? |

I read the https://www.visajourney.com/guides/visitor-visa/, but I am still unsure what supporting documents I should advise them to bring for establishing the financial/income requirements. For a bit of background, my wife (K-1 Visa / Pending GC Decision) wants her parents to come visit sometime in 2026, which I believe should be fine given they have ample evidence of ties to Philippines (e.g. taking care of family members, owns a home, owns multiple plots of land, etc.), no criminal background, no prior visa/immigration issues, etc. However, the problem comes in regards to financial/income requirements as they are basically retired other than some part-time selling of crops, so on paper, no income. Now I know unlike K-1 Visa, there is no actual connection to myself or even my wife in regards to the application, so no need to provide an Affidavit of Support, but realistically, we would be supporting them when they come to visit and we would be paying for all their travel costs. I'm just curious how to best go about advising them to evidence this plan or if this in itself is a huge red flag that they cannot pay for themselves.

What can I expect if my spouse's 1-30 CR-1 is being processed at the Vermont Service Center, my step-son's K-3 is being processed in Nebraska Service Center, and my step-daughter's K-3 is being processed in the Texas Service Center? All of the petitions are tied together with each other through petition reference, but I am curious how the USCIS processes spouses with minor children when the petitions are scattered all over the country and have similar but different processing times?

I wanted to make a quick post about my wife's experience a few weeks ago during her citizenship interview to maybe save anyone else in a similar situation some time. My wife (K1) and step daughter (K2) filed for removal of conditions back in June of 2023. She received an extension letter for her Permanent Resident card in response. We decided it was best for her to just go ahead and file her N 400 (citizenship) in April of this year and do a combo interview. Her citizenship interview was this month at the Kansas City office. She attended and answered all of the questions correctly and was recommended for approval. When she went back out to the main counter to get a swearing in ceremony date and time they asked where our daughter was. She told them our daughter was at school where she should be on a Tuesday morning at 9am. We were then informed about the Alien Registration Requirement (https://www.uscis.gov/alienregistration) passed this year that requires anyone 14 years of age or older to recomplete all of their biometrics. We offered to go get her from school and bring her back but were told we will need a new appointment and they will send a letter. This is our fault for not keeping up with the new requirements, but in my opinion there have been so many recent changes it is difficult for average people who are working and taking care of their family. We were never informed with any notices, emails, or even the appointment letter that our daughter would also need to attend the interview for biometrics. If you have any children who were part of the immigration process that are 14 years of age or will be 14 years of age as of the time of your citizenship interview, make sure you go through the G-325R Biographic Information Registration process as shown in the link I pasted above.
