I-864 Affidavit of support. Assets or Joint Sponsor?

Looking for opinion on what to do in our situation.

Wife (US) and I (IE) have been living in Ireland for 3+ years since being married. We are about to file our I-864.

Currently we each earn around ~70k USD from employment in Ireland, but as this is all foreign source income it can not be used for form I-864. We would prefer to NOT have to use a joint sponsor as it is quite a big commitment, but it is possible for us if truly required.

Our assets look like this:

Net property value ~40k USD. Last appraised <2 years ago so it should reasonably accurate.

Stocks and bonds ~20k USD

Cash ~ 31k USD

Taxes owed from student loans ~(16k) USD - note: this is payable as a % of income. If I earn below ~40k USD I am not required to make ANY payment. I am not sure if it is a requirement to include this, but I so far include in all my calculations to take a conservative approach.

There is also a car worth approx 5-6k USD which we will sell when we leave Ireland, but we do not include as per the guidelines.

So in total we will have approx. 75k when we submit the form in 2 months time. Total required for lower 48 is 17,420 * 1.25 * 3 = 65,325

What is your opinion on our situation - do we have enough to be in the clear at time of submission? Is a joint sponsor preferred or will we be ok with this level of assets? (We could also potentially delay the application another 2 months to save another 8-10k.)

Bonus question - does it matter who is holding the assets, the applicant vs the petitioner/sponsor?

NVC expedite

Hello,

I put in an expedite first week of June and just heard back today. They said they are currently reviewing my case and to get in touch if I haven't received an answer in 30 days. From what I gathered its not up to the NVC, it is up to your local embassy, is that correct?

I feel like our chances are good since we've been at the NVC since April with all my husbands (applicant) documents approved since June. We just keep getting delayed at the NVC over silly stuff, signatures, them approving documents then going back and rejecting them for our joint sponsor, etc.

Our local embassy seems to be completely up to date and scheduling interviews 3-4 weeks after getting DQed.

I'd appreciate hearing anyone else experience with an expedite request, how long it took etc.

Thanks a million

Biometrics Appointment next week but have not received appointment letter

Hi There,

I have had several extremely frustrating calls with USCIS agents and bots recently.

Long and short is: I apparently have my Biometrics Appointment next Friday. It is part of i751 to remove conditions on my CR-1.

However, I have still not received an appointment letter. The lady on the phone last week said it was sent the previous Friday. The lady on the phone yesterday said no mail had been sent.

Of course, when I asked about this discrepancy she gives me the story of how she cannot help me. Seemingly oblivious to the ridiculousness of two people working for the same division, having completely conflicting reports.

What do I do? The second lady kept telling me to download the form from the MyUSCIS account but I kept telling her, there was no documents tab... Just complete and utter s**t show from these folks at USCIS

Are the processing times different depending on if your basis of married for 3 years versus PR for 5 years? My husband is both (we ve been married 6 years and he s been a PR for 5) so I just applied based on the 5 years because they don t ask for as much paperwork but now wondering if the 3yr ones are being processed faster - seems like this could be the case from peeking at some timelines. Does anyone know?

Any employment based immigrant visa applicants in Ireland?

Hey everyone,

So my case is a bit unusual. It's an employment based immigrant visa petition (EB-3). My case has been documentarily qualified by the NVC since November 2020.

Has anyone else from Ireland recently gone through consular processing for an employment based green card, or going through the process at present?

Would love to hear from people in any of the main EB categories (EB-1, EB-2, EB-3) especially, and if you wouldn't mind sharing your timelines and interview dates that would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

Jonathan
