I have a couple of asset and income issues to resolve. My wife and I own a house together in her country. I realize that I can't own property in China but my name and passport number are on the house documents.

1. Do we claim it as joint ownership and if so how do we do it. We claimed it as joint ownership in the I-130 application as evidence of co-mingling of finances. I presented translated documents of the house and my financial contribution to the property. I don't think I should change the claim mid-stream.

2. To show joint assets do I need to file a I-864 on her too?

3. She has a small income and I contribute a monthly amount to that to keep her from having to work all kinds of hours and 7 days a week. We do the transference of that monthly support through monthly bank transfers. On the I-864 can we report that as income? Do we need to separate out the 2 streams of income and how? (We can back it up with bank statements.)

4. She has some savings that until now she kept in cash. She recently put it into the bank so that we could show that she had some money. If we show it as assets would that be frowned on since it is essentially a new account and does not show and long term saving of money. I know in financing of homes in America, lending institutions would frown on this kind of evidence.

Thanks

I entered the US through k1 visa and I am planning to apply for AOS and EAD at the same time. I had a SSN when I was on F1 status two years ago, and I applied for a replacement card after entering the US this year. However, the replacement is flagged and pending. I called SSA office and they said they couldn't do anything and the only thing we could do is wait. I have prepared all the docs for AOS and EAD application. Since my SSN should not change, can I file the applications without a physical SSN card? Thank you for your help!!

USCIS Field Office Phone Call for Naturalization Interview Scheduling?

My wife has a pending naturalization case filed in Houston, TX in Nov 2020 and received a phone call and a voice message from the self-claimed 'Immigration Office' regarding naturalization (the exact word used in the voice message was 'citizenship application') this afternoon. The person claimed her name is Officer Moore and left a call back number.

When we googled the call back phone number 281-539-7000, it showed it's a commercial company land line in Houston. However, internet research also showed the number may be from a USCIS Houston Field Office.

We are confused and concerned it may be a scam?

Problems getting birth certificate for China interview

I have reviewed several previous threads related to China birth certificates, but did not find one that quite addresses my situation. I am hoping someone familiar can suggest something? Thank you all in advance.

Background:

My fiance has contacted the notary office in her hometown to confirm what documents are required to generate a notarial birth certificate ( , which I understand is what the Guangzhou consulate is looking for. The requirements are as follows:

1) (Hukou-ben, original)

2) (Parents' marriage certificate, original)

3) (official identification cards for both parents, copies accepted)

4) (Applicant's official identification card, original)

Our problem is:

My fiance is estranged from her father, who keeps the family documents under lock and key and is unwilling to provide their Hukou-ben, marriage certificate, or his identification card for use at the notary (which means we only have the mother's ID card copy and my fiance's own ID card). We are attempting to negotiate with the notary office to see if there is any alternative, but so far they are insistent that we provide all of the above documents.

I have two questions:

1) Any suggestions for alternative means to acquire the birth certificate?

2) If a birth certificate cannot be obtained, any suggestions on how to explain it at the interview stage (as Guangzhou consulate's interview checklist requires the birth certificate)?

For those who have read this far (thanks!), here are a few suggestions I have dug up so far:

Re: question 1, I have read that a medical record of birth from a hospital ( can sometimes be substituted for the notarial birth certificate , but my fianc was not born in a hospital and does not believe such a record exists.

Re: question 2, I have read a consular website (not GZ) suggest that we acquire a written statement from a government authority stating why the birth certificate is not available. I feel like this is not relevant to our case - the document technically is available, but we cannot get it printed owing to family drama, and anyway I'm not sure the notary office would play ball writing a note to confirm this situation. Or am I wrong?

Re: question 2, the immigration website Boundless has suggested applicants in our situation get a notarized personal affidavit from a close relative explaining why the birth certificate is not available and listing all of the information that a birth certificate should contain. My fiance's mother might be willing to assist with such a document, but I am uncertain if this is a good strategy as Boundless is not addressing China specifically and I have not seen this approach suggested anywhere else, China or otherwise.
