Hi. Like many others, we are struggling to get an SSN and it has now been 8 weeks. If we factor in holiday and all, maybe 7. But still - far longer than SSA estimated.

  • Applied for SSN on December 23, 2020
    • Employee said to look out for a confirmation letter within 2-4 weeks and then the SSN should arrive shortly after
  • Received confirmation letter sometime in early January.
    • Letter stated we applied on January 2, 2021 which was not true - but maybe that's when the documents were finally submitted to SSA from the local office
    • Letter said number would be issued within 4 weeks
  • We have now called the local office and the general SSA number and no one has answers
  • SAVE status says Case Returned to Maryland SSA (single sign-on) as of January 29, 2021
  • Today is February 16, 2021 and we have no updates
  • I-94 is valid until March 11, 2021

Does anyone have advice on what to do or where to go next? Further complicating this is tax season - I need to file taxes but cannot file jointly without an SSN and I've heard it takes quite awhile to obtain an ITIN.

Vaccine Exemption for Philosophical Reasons

Hello all, if this is posted elsewhere, please just help me find it. I'm Canadian, at the beginning of my Visa journey. I have my childhood vaccine record and likely won't need any. However, since becoming an adult and in charge of my own medical decisions, I am philosophically opposed to vaccines. There is a grey area around the TB shot (not required in my age group, I'm 36). But depending on when my medical is the flu shot could also be required. Not to mention when they'll add a C-ov-id vaccine to the list. I've done my research, according to the immigration website I can in fact decline on philosophical grounds. I simply have to write a testimony as such. I'm having a very hard time finding any one who has chose to go down this path of exemption on philosophical grounds.

I'm not looking to debate vaccines in any way. I'm Pro-Choice. Just looking for any one who's written such a declaration and what they put in that letter.

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help.

Jesse

Thank you for all the help on this forum, it is greatly appreciated!

We have our interview in a couple days. Marriage based I-485 from an O1 Visa to hopefully permanent residency. How do you transport your documents for the interview? At this point we have been married three years and almost two years since we submitted our application. All our documentation is about 50lbs. Can I just wheel a filing cabinet into the office? Haha

K1 Visa, a few questions

My fianc and I are about to send off our petition probably sometime next week, as we've been busy compiling everything.
I do have a few questions though regarding not just this petition but the process to ensure I am ready to get going.

I was told they ask for vaccine records, but what do you do in the case that you don't know/have the yellow paper?
And are there any vaccines that are mandatory that i'd get rejected for not having?

Are there specific guidelines on the wedding for the K1, or is it just what the laws are in the state?

Is there any way to have a 'backup sponsor'? I would love my fianc too, but in the event for whatever reason we get rejected for that, am I able to give another form of a different sponsor or would we need to start over from the start? (Cr-1)

Suggestions for Couple Going through I130 Process

Hello everyone!

I did not know where to post these questions.

Summary of Our Journey:

My wife and I met about a little over a year ago (She is US Citizen and Im Canadian Citizen Beneficiary). We got married in July 2020 (courthouse wedding as it was COVID and my family couldnt travel due to COVID) and I have gone to visit her in the US 3 times in total (each trip lasting about 12 days). I am a Registered Nurse in Ontario and so getting time off to go visit her is not as easy in general, but even more so difficult given the new travel restrictions.

We submitted our I130 application on July 16th 2020, with NOA1 day of. Our case was initially for Nebraska, but quietly got transferred to Texas on July 23, 2020. We are still awaiting an approval (NOA2).

This time as been very hard on us. I hate being away from her and am literally crying every day. I know everyone away from their loved ones is going through a hard time right now.

We do have the following questions if anyone doesnt mind offering their experiences or suggestions.

1) We got married in a courthouse just us two as we felt ready to commit to each other. All of our friends, family, amd coworkers know we are married. I even have cards and gifts from them proving so. But we still booked an actual wedding event for a future date in 2022 for when pandemic is finally over and my family from Canada can attend. Is this a red flag that we got married at a courthouse and have postponed an actual wedding with our families and friends to when COVID is done and it is safe to travel again?

2) given how long this process might be, i am considering applying for a Work TN Visa to go work as a Nurse in her state so i can continue to financially support us and be with her at the same time. I am allowed to do this even though we are undergoing the I130/CR1 process? Or should i continue to work as a nurse in Ontario and patiently await for this to be over soon?

3) how understanding is USCIS that although she and I our married - we dont yet have a residence together (though we are looking)? Due to her own health and personal reasons, She is currently still living with her mother and I (currently residing and working in Canada) cant purchase a home with my wife until I build my savings and build credit in the US.

We currently have joint finances, our names on each others' pensions.

Once we actually are residing together when I move there will we get joint utilities, insurance, a residence.

Thank you all in advance for reading this and assisting!

Melissa
