Hello again VJ family- I was wondering what kind of medical insurance we can purchase. We are getting married in 3 weeks. I'm USC, he is from Canada. He came in on Dec 26th. He currently has visitor's health insurance through his father's benefits plan in Canada but since he will be adjusting status here here I'm thinking he is or soon won't be covered under that Canadian plan. So what kind of plan could he be eligible for as a visitor here who will marry and adjust status in the US? Also looking to satisfy the i-944 requirement. TIA

My fianc will have his K1 interview on Monday and he will move to the US in May. We plan on getting married immediately after he moves and adjust his status. I notice that the EAD processing times have gotten longer and longer. Sometimes I can take up to one year. When we first applied, it was only taking 3-6 months which is why we did K1 over CR1. Now I m worried it s going to take us really long for his to get his EAD/AP. Does anyone know if they are starting to catch up on this at USCIS? Does getting another service center over the other affect processing times? And does anyone Know if Biden has said anything about improving processing times for EAD?

My heart is heavy as I write this. I've spent so much time and effort into our relationship and this visa, it is sad to see it end. NOA2/approval from USCIS was Feb 12 2021, break up was few weeks prior. I'll spare the details. He is the petitioner (US), I am the beneficiary (Canada). Don't think there's any chance of reconciliation. Many on this forum advised that the petitioner should write to get the visa cancelled, as to not create any future problems. The problem is I'm not sure who he would be writing to. I don't have the case number or anything (didn't do the whole bit where I am supposed to wait 5 weeks before calling to find out case number, as we had already broken up by then). It's been more than a month since NOA2 so I'm not sure the status of the visa anymore. Is he writing to the service center, or NVC? (or elsewhere? doubt it made it to consulate/embassy yet) Also is in writing by mail or an email?

With the "new reality" of COVID-19 and working from home, my employer has offered me the opportunity to continue working at my job in Canada remotely after my CR1 comes through and I move to the US (Texas). In another forum here at VJ, I discovered there are a few of us who have been offered the same opportunity. Just have a few questions for anyone who has gone through a similar process, either pre- or post-COVID. It seems that the best option is to work as a consultant to avoid paying double taxes (federal taxes in Canada and then income taxes in the US), and there may be some loss in being paid in CAD$, but are there any other pitfalls to be concerned about? I am counting this income on my AOS (I am immigrating with a child so I have to complete an I-864A). Thanks for any advice. If your advice includes "consult a tax accountant" or "consult a tax lawyer" any recommendations for US/Canada cross-border tax lawyers/accountants would be greatly appreciated.
