Canadians working in Canada after the move to the US - what to know?

With the "new reality" of COVID-19 and working from home, my employer has offered me the opportunity to continue working at my job in Canada remotely after my CR1 comes through and I move to the US (Texas). In another forum here at VJ, I discovered there are a few of us who have been offered the same opportunity. Just have a few questions for anyone who has gone through a similar process, either pre- or post-COVID. It seems that the best option is to work as a consultant to avoid paying double taxes (federal taxes in Canada and then income taxes in the US), and there may be some loss in being paid in CAD$, but are there any other pitfalls to be concerned about? I am counting this income on my AOS (I am immigrating with a child so I have to complete an I-864A). Thanks for any advice. If your advice includes "consult a tax accountant" or "consult a tax lawyer" any recommendations for US/Canada cross-border tax lawyers/accountants would be greatly appreciated.

I-751 and NOA

Hi.

My temporary green card expires on May 9.

Per the rules, I filed my I-751 at the beginning of Feb (must be in the 90 days prior to expiry).

The fee check has not been cashed, and I have not received the NOA.

I got a confirmation from FedEx that my application was received by the Phoenix Lockbox - assuming that it will head to the California USCIS processing center.

Per the process, it asks to email the lockbox address if you are more than 30 days from the filing date and have not heard anything at all back.

I sent an email ... and got this reply .....

"Inquiries related to a form received at the lockbox or general questions related to the lockbox, should receive a response within 30 business days, with the following exception: An inquiry related to a receipt notice for Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence"

When I phone the USCIS number ... you never get a live person (expect that you probably cannot), but worse, the recording states to email the lockbox email. It spins round and round and eventually the voice states "sorry I cannot help you and will end the call".

I can no longer make appointments at the Boise field office to talk to someone.

Assuming I have to quit my job and leave the USA on May 10 if I get nothing back - or any confirmation or advice of any kind.

As I have no receipt number or case number, there is nothing for me to track online.

Does anyone know of a number to call that has a person associated with it?

Perspective or experience from anyone who has recently filed an I-751?

When I filed the 485, the check was cashed in less than 1 week ... and the NOA and biometrics appt were not that far behind.

Thanks for any thoughts or guidance.

W

What should be the frequency of visits for couple with age gap?

I am an Indian citizen living in Canada on a student visa. I've met my girlfriend (now fiance) for five times in the last five years. Three times when I was in the US (I held an F-1 visa which is now CWOP) and twice so far in Canada. I am the one who made the trips to her place. Is my number visits to the US adequate? (we have an age gap of 16 years, me being the younger one)? Is there a hard and fast rule regarding the number of times the engaged couple should have met? Thanks for the responses in advance!
