Filing US Taxes for First Time

Hello all,

I was wondering if someone might be able to help me out with a tax question. I am a USC. I have lived in Canada all my life. I plan to move to the US shortly and just got my SSN a couple weeks ago. I got my US passport in 2018 through my dad and this was my first confirmation of US citizenship.

How far back do I need to file my taxes and is it 6 years for the FBAR?

Also if anyone knows about foreign investments such as RESPs and Tax Free Savings accounts. Should I be putting down the interest I made on the TFSA even though it is not taxable here? Do I pay tax on RESPs?

Thank you for any help!

Request to expedite I-130 petition

I am a Canadian and my spouse is a US LPR.

we re looking to expedite our petition for emergency reasons.

one reason being, we are threatened by the Canadian government for invoking the emergencies act.

we believe democracy is currently being tested and threatened in Canada and that communism lingers.

the government has fallen to be authoritarian, totalitarian, tyrannical, and communist to a large degree.

history.state.gov/milestones/1945-1952/truman-doctrine
With the Truman Doctrine, President Harry S. Truman established that the United States would provide political, military and economic assistance to all democratic nations under threat from external or internal authoritarian forces.

what are your thoughts on this?

can this request negatively effect our petition?

( professional response only )

thank you!

Hi,

I have a flight booked for June 2022 and i know that travel restrictions are still in effect to enter the united states. I have two questions regarding this

1) does anyone with experience know if they accept "SARS COVID Antigen Test" or do they only accept "SARS COVID PCR Nasal Swab" or do they also accept at home tests?

the airlines I'm going to be using is American airlines if that makes any difference in protocols.

RCMP criminal check delays

My daughter and family have their interview in Montreal in a week. The only thing outstanding is the RCMP checks, which is supposed to take 10 business days and when she called to see where it was, they said you get it when you get it, covid etc

This must be an issue for everyone, they were documentary approved in 2007, then everything was put on hold and their police checks expired. My question is, what has happened to others going to the interview without the updated RCMP checks in hand? Is it denied outright? Denied awaiting documents? Rescheduled? I can t find the information anywhere!

Thanks for your help.

Issued K1 Visa packet

Hi

My Fianc e just received our approved K1 Visa in the mail!!

I had some questions regarding the package itself

1) On the State.gov website it states not to open the "sealed package" My question is the package inside the package i received in the mail or am i not suppose to open the package at all (in picture)

2) I know the Issued K1 visa is valid for up to 6 months and upon entry we have 90 days to get married and apply for AoS ect. So does this mean that if the issue date was March 4th 2022, and i enter the states on June 4th 2022, does that mean that there is only 3 months left of validity of the Visa upon entry? The reason i ask is because i would like to stay in Canada just a little longer to save up as much money as possible before entering the USA to get married and stay with my wife while we apply for AoS. I'm just not sure if it's wise to stay in Canada to save more money for another 3 months or if i should just pack my bags and head down asap.

Any help would be appreciated.
