Police Certificates in Alberta?

Hi all,

My wife is a Canadian citizen living in Edmonton and I'm a US citizen. We're doing the IR1/CR1 visa and now on the step of submitting the civil documents to the CEAC website and we're a bit confused about the whole Police Certificate and how to obtain it.

We initially called the RCMP to ask them about getting one for the visa but they said that since she's from Alberta that she had to go through the local police to obtain it and to call them. The only thing we could get through to is their automated system which told us to submit the application online. However, the only thing we can request for is a Police Information Check which, from what we can see, it isn't accepted by the NVC. I've been searching through VJ for anything close to what we were told but couldn't find anything. I saw this website linked multiple times showing what the actual document looks like. Also found this through the RCMP about fingerprinting and accredited places to get the forms.

I saw this in another post:

Quote

Document Name: Certified Criminal Record Check Type of Criminal Record Check for Personal Use (*formerly known as Privacy Act)

Sub-type: Other (Provide Details)

Details of Information sought: RCMP National Repository Entire Holdings

The following documents WILL NOT be accepted:

  • Type of Criminal Record Check for Personal Use: Visa-Border Crossing, Foreign Travel, Work document.
  • Type of Criminal Record Check for Personal Use: Active Criminal Record document
    • Provincial or City issued police certificate

Issuing Authority: Royal Canadian Mounted Police

Special Seal(s) / Color / Format: The requested document is fingerprint-based, but the report does not include an image of the applicant or the applicant s fingerprints. Examples of Canadian Police Certificates can be found at U.S. Embassy & Consulates in Canada (usembassy.gov).

Where do we actually have to go to get our correct Police Certificate? Did they feed us the wrong info when we called them?

So confused about taxes and N400 form

I would like to apply for my N400 in February. This is what is on the Document Checklist that is confusing to me:

4. Documents referring to you and your spouse:

a. Tax returns, bank accounts, leases, mortgages, or birth certificates of children;

or b. Internal Revenue Service (IRS)-certified copies of the income tax forms that you both filed for the past 3 years;

or c. An IRS tax return transcript for the last 3 years.

I have read some posts regarding this and many say that you have to send them a tax return transcript or certified copies. But in front of parts b and c, I see the word "or".

So does this mean I have a choice of tax returns, OR, certified copies, OR a tax return transcript.

As well, I want to apply now, before our tax filing. Does anyone think this is not a great idea and to wait until we filed. (I just don't want to wait another month because I have the funds now)

Oh, and one last question: If I file online is that quicker and also, I guess I send all supporting documents in PDF's. (I have always filed with hard copies for everything in the past.)

I was hoping to gain my citizenship this year since it is the 250 Birthday.

Thanks in advance!

Divorce decree/certificate needs to be notarized?

I've heard so many varying things, so any clarification would be greatly appreciated. When I got divorced I never got any physical copies of my divorce decree/certificate of divorce. I received digital copies with a digital signature on the certificate of divorce (the certificate that says when my divorce fully takes effect).

Now my question is, do I need to have a physical copy with the raised seal from the courthouse for my k1 interview in Montreal (it isn't for a while, but I wanna get ahead of this)? I've heard some people say if I was only provided the digital copies it'll be fine, but I've also heard that I need to have them notarized in order to proceed. This is causing a lot of stress because it's about as clear as mud. If I have to call the courthouse to get the proper physical copies with the raised seal (which were supposed to be mailed to me but never were) then obviously I'll do so, but any sort of actual answer would be great...I also noticed that on my certificate of divorce that my ex husband's first name is spelled wrong on one part and I'm unsure if that will cause any issues even though it's spelled correctly everywhere else...

Hi I m currently waiting on my i751 to be approved. Although I immigrated from Canada my country of birth is from one of the 75 countries on the visa ban announced today. Would this affect me in anyway?

I have been a conditional resident since 2023. I also have upcoming travel to Canada to visit my family is that still safe on my extension letter and expired greencard after this recent announcement.

Hi all,

I am a US citizen filing for my wife who is Canadian. A couple of months ago she had moved from her previous address to a new place. Our I-130 was approved and was sent to the NVC today.

The notice from USCIS says that the NVC will contact the beneficiary about going further. Do they mail it to them still or does it get emailed? If mailed, how do I update her address with the NVC?
