Would like to hear people's experiences. Did you get your waiver approved quicker? Any tips on how to speed it up?

For CR1, at what point do I provide updated evidence of bona fide relationship?

Hi everyone!! :)

My spouse is a USC, we have a I-130 with consular processing which was just approved and we are now dealing with NVC to get DQ. We are hoping to get a CR1 (married just over 1 year)

My question is at what point do we provide updated evidence for bona fide relationship? (i.e. visits since the I130 was filed etc) I know we will need to provide updated evidence when we get to the IR1 stage and file to remove conditions

I have read the .gov sites and nothing says that I am supposed to be uploading this type of evidence to the NVC at this stage (DS-160 and Affidavit of Support)

Our first package was pretty substantial, showing communication of over a decade and just under 10 visits together

Should I just bring updated evidence to the interview in Montreal in case they request it? Or would NVC send an RFE if they want me to upload updated evidence?

I just want to make sure I am not missing something here! Thanks so much for any advice you can provide!

Hey Visa Journey!

I m in the process of filing for my mom to get her Green Card, who is Jamaican born but holds Canadian citizenship. For the initial I-130 petition filed I included all of her Canadian Passport information on the forms. With the recent freeze being placed on 75 countries, Jamaica being on that list is she still eligible and in the clear to apply for her Green Cardbas a Canadian although she wasn t born in Canada? Much thanks!!

I m a US citizen who submitted an I-130 in October of 2023 online to request my Canadian husband s green card. It was received and still says case is still being processed by USCIS . It appears no progress has been made in almost 2.5 years. Every similar timeline was processed long ago. It s as if our paperwork has been completely forgotten and will never be done. Our lawyer has submitted 2 delay requests and called multiple time with no results. They just say there are delays (even though everyone else gets theirs back in a year. Has anyone else had this and what should we do?

Canadian Citizen Wife & US Green Card Holder - Canadian Passport Renewal Denied Due To Not Being A Canadian Citizen?!

Hello All,

I am a US Citizen and sponsored my Canadian wife to the US, who currently holds her US Green Card since June 2021.

My wife's Canadian passport renewal application was denied because it said she isn't a Canadian Citizen, even though she has the Canadian citizenship card ID and ceremonial certificate from 2001.

I asked ChatGPT what it thinks happened, and it stated:

"Your old Canadian citizenship card is still legally valid proof that you are a Canadian citizen even though they stopped issuing those cards in 2012. Canada s official rules still list citizenship cards as accepted proof of citizenship.

What changed in 2012 is how Canada issues new proof of citizenship. They moved to a newer paper citizenship certificate that s easier for the government s systems to check electronically.

Because your card is older and doesn t have the newer certificate number or barcode, Passport Canada s automated system may not have been able to find your citizenship record in their database. When it can t automatically verify the record, it sometimes produces a confusing message like you are not a Canadian citizen even though legally you still are. This isn t a true loss of citizenship it s a technical/administrative mismatch between the old document and the current verification system.

This is a known situation: many people with older citizenship cards run into verification problems because Passport Canada s systems expect the newer certificate format. In those cases, either a manual check of the original citizenship record or applying for the newer citizenship certificate solves the issue.

So the problem was likely not that your citizenship ended, but that the passport office couldn t electronically confirm the old card in the system. That s why we re planning to ask the consulate to manually check your record if they confirm it, the passport can be processed without waiting for a new certificate."

It recommends scheduling with the Canadian Consulate in Washington State where we live, and discuss with them to resolve this issue.

I wanted to know if anyone else in this forum had this issue as well? What were your outcomes?

Thank you everyone in advance!
