Hello fellow VJers -

My husband and I went to our AOS interview today. The apt was at 8:40am in Manchester NH and they were about 50 mins late to take us in.

We brought with us a huge box with pictures, albums, papers and everything they asked us to bring on the interview letter.

The IO was an older female. She wasn't really outgoing, but not unpleasant either. She looked very serious and like she has been doing this

for years. She swore us in - and then the interview began...

She asked my husband how we met - what we do together.

She then turned and asked me my husband's birthdate - to see my Naturalization Certificate, our marriage certificate, common bills like electricity, lease,

our car insurance, health insurance... She then asked me if I decided to take my husband's name cause i filled out all my papers with my

maiden name and then I said that yes I did take his last name an showed her a copy of the letter from the SSA attesting that I changed my last name.

Asked me where I worked and what was my position/tittle - then asked us our home number and our cell phone number. Asked him if he's ever

worked illegally while he was visiting ( of course he never did. ) Then asked him how was he able to support himself when he visited me, he said that

his parents gave him some money and that I also provided a roof over his head, food and all the essentials.

She then asked my husband for his passport and she took the I-94W out of there and kept it - she asked to see the EAD and the AP - she looked

at them and returned them to us saying "You can keep those as they are valid documents". Asked also my husband his place of birth, when we got married

also asked if his parents were at the wedding and we said that we got married out of the blue and they couldn't come. She then asked him what made us

decide to get married when he was visiting - He said that we just couldn't bear being separated anymore... She said "yes, you have been away from each other quite

often..."

She then said that the I-130 is approved - but that she "is waiting for some things to come through the computer" before she could approve the I-485.

We would receive a letter informing of her decisions. She asked my husband again for our address, wrote it down on a paper. She was also "training"

an officer, he was sitting next to her and he seemed friendly.

I think its a good sign that the I-130 was approved and that she kept the I-94W from his passport. She didn't even asked us to see pictures, letters, didn't even

ask us much about anything really. It was a very formal interview, pretty cut and dry. What I think is strange is that she could approve the I-130 and not the I-485 right

then, but I also think that since she was training a new officer, maybe she needed to show him all the steps and that all is in order with him without us being there.

We were not given any RFEs either... I just wished she could have told us we were all set - but she didn't say anything negative - so we'll take this as a positive

outcome...

We hope to see the "Welcome to America" letter in the next few weeks!

02-24-09:..........Biometrics apt. Letter: 03-08-09 8AM.

03-09-09:..........Biometrics done - in and out in 10 mins.

03-20-09:..........Received today INTERVIEW LETTER FOR: 04-21-09!!!! ( TOTAL DAYS FROM FILING TO INTERVIEW: 68 DAYS!!! )

04-10-09:..........Received AP in mail!

04-13-09:..........Received EAD in mail! ~~~ WE ARE SO GRATEFUL AND HAPPY!!! ~~~

04-21-09:..........AOS interview in Manchester NH - I-130 approved - I-485 No decision made - Were told to wait for decision letter

04-27-09:.......... ******* WELCOME TO AMERICA LETTER RCD! ******* ~~ adjustment from VWP without a problem! ~~

05-01-09:..........GREENCARD IN HAND!!! WOOO!!!

TOTAL TIME FROM AOS REACHING LOCKBOX TO GREENCARD IN HAND: 79 DAYS!!!!

The I-130 is normally approved at CSC or VSC so maybe this is what she saw on the computer. It looks like your husband will be approved shortly. Congrats!

Sounds good, they are probably checking the validity of the 485. If they don't approve the 485, they will send it back to the benificiarys home embassy to process it there.

(there is a similar case on this site - still waiting to see how that pans out)

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

Sounds positive to me, hope you hear something good soon! It seems like most people interviewing recently haven't had a decision instantly, so I wouldn't take that as a bad sign that you weren't approved on the spot.

First, CONGRATULATIONS !.....

edp333 is right. I-130 is only approved either by VSC or CSC.

IO does not have an authority to approve I-130.

I'm sure you have passed the interview, next thing you are going to see in your mailbox is "Welcome Letter".

Please post this interview experience under "February 2009 AOS Filers" also. Thanx...

Isn't it weird that she didnt want to see any pictures? She didnt want to see his BC nor mine - nothing really. The thing that shocked me is that it seems that she didn't even look through our file at all beforehand! All of the evidence that she kept asking for was already submitted! It feels to me that she didn't even check anything. It made me feel kinda strange as like "she didn't do her homework" before meeting with us! Then couldn't even approve us on the spot even if we provided everything she requested! It angers me and make me feel like we did something wrong? We have a strong Bona Fide marriage!! The interview lasted maybe 20 mins - no RFEs either... I just want everything to be ok! I am dealing with a very impatient and negative hubby at the moment and its starting to make me nervous even though inside I am having a positive feeling about it all...

I don't think it's weird. Pictures can be "staged", evidence sent can be "faked".

She may of very well looked through your file, but was testing you to see if you had that information with you, like they ask you to bring.. Which you did!

Looking at the way you two interact and go through your information can also be used to check your bonafides :)

Just go get a bottle of wine, some cheese/crackers, put on some soft music, light some candles and relax. :thumbs:

yes you shd get your letter any moment. I dnt think they have any reason to disapprove your I-485. I dnt see any reason why

March 13, 2009 : NOA 1 received on I-485, I-130, I-765. Dated March 11th, 09
March 17, 2009 : Biometrics Letter recieved (Dated 13th March). Interview on 1st week of April
April 2, 2009 : Biometrics done. Total time taken with wait 20 mins.
April 22, 2009 : Called USCIS. They have received fingerprints and work permit is in process.
May 7, 2009 : I-765 case online. Card Production ordered.
May 11,2009 : EAD card received.
May 12,2009 : Applied for SSN.
May 18,2009 : Received SS card.
June 08,2009 : Received Letter for Interview ( scheduled on July 14 th July )
July 14th : Great Interview. All done in 20 mins.
July 18th: Online status - Card Production ordered. Thank God !! I-130 online status : Pending
July 23rd : Welcome to USA & I-130 approval letter recieved. Online status still shows pending.
July 31st : Received conditional green card
