MI: First grader shot six times trying to save mom

A first grader is being called a hero for trying to protect her mother in Detroit.

The eight-year-old risked her life and took six bullets during a gunman's rage Saturday night.

That Felithia Parker and her daughter are still alive after what ex-boyfriend Calvin Tillie is accused of doing to them is nothing short of miraculous.

Parker tells police she'd broken up with Tillie but feared he would hurt her. She called a girlfriend Saturday night to pick her up from her east side home. That's when court records say Tillie held them at gunpoint forcing the friend to drive with a nine millimeter to the head with Parker and her little girl in the SUV.

Felithia Parker's friend knew that she needed to do something, so she told Tillie they needed gas, got him to come into this gas station on 7 mile, leaving Tillie with Parker and her daughter inside the car while her friend runs into this gas station, calls 911, the clerk calls 911 and then the gun shots start.

Mohammad, gas station clerk, says, "She was crying for the second time when I called 911, and she grabbed the phone."

Police say Calvin Tillie started firing his 9mm into Parker. Her little girl screamed for Tillie to stop. That's when he unloaded six rounds into the child and tried to run. But Detroit police arrived on the scene took him into custody and the mother and child to the hospital.

The little girl lost an eye in the shooting and is listed in stable condition. The mother has been released from the hospital.

In defense of our VJ Troll, that is not what he meant. Of course, being poor does not make you shot people. He is looking at this like a disease. If you want to stay healthy you need to build your immune system. Any weak cell in your body can turn on you without warning.

This is a tragic and despicable event, but on a deeper level, it may have all been avoided with some preventive medicine.
