OMG I feel terrible for a coworker

so, I went to Mexico a couple of months ago, and I thought it was gonna be unpaid vacations, I was ok with that..after I got back, I got a call from HR and told me that there was a new policy so I had a week vacation and 1 personal day, so I was gonna get paid for that week, I was, sweet! well.. I told my coworkers and one girl who worked through a temp agency, got hired directly in july or august, decided to take a 1week vacation this month..

so, today that I come back from the hospital, they told us that she wasn't gonna get paid for the week vacation (she's still on her vac), because that 1 week vacation that I got, was only for employees hired before july the 1st.. which noone knew about that.. I kinda feel bad for her, cuz well, I didn't know and basically got them all excited yay we can get paid vacation, but, the HR manager never ever told me, or any1 else about that 'employees hired before the middle of the year'..
