Hey,

well we decided to send photocopies instead of originials, since we have only one Certified Copy of the Divorce Decree (when we FINALLY get it after more than 3 weeks, lawyer sent it to the wrong address so ya we STILL dont have it :crying: ),his Birth Certificate and my Birth Certificate.

What are the requirments for photocopies? Do we have to copy front AND back of the documents or just the front?

Thanks for any advice

Natashabrenda,

Sorry to hear about the road blocks on your journey... There's no hard and fast rule about copies - but essentially copies of divorce-decree, birth certificate and the like are OK to submit (and is recommended since you wouldn't want to lose them) so long as you are prepared to show the originals at the interview. Most legal documents don't have a 'back' but if they do, make copies front and back - if you can't make double-sided copies, simply label them as 'front' and 'back.' (Both of our international birth certificates, for example, actually had a 'back.')

Hope that helps...

Thanks Karin! Yeah it seems to NEVER end........And on top of all the other delays regarding to this nightmare of a divorce now the processing times are sky high........

We wanted to get married May 17th (exactly 3 years after we met) but that seems well out of the question now.......

Then the next propblem comes up,most airlines have a "Heat Embargo" for animals and that starts on May 15th and since I will be taking our black Lab and my cat back to the US with me I might have to send them ahead now...........

I'm SO frustrated right now................

I only hope and pray that we can still go home by the end of April.

But that looks like wishful thinking right now...............

You could always get certified copies of divorce decrees from your county clerk for a fee. As many copies as you want. You may need them in the future for something else. But for now, could send copies of the decree and be ready with the originals for the interview.

Never send originals, only photocopies. The beneficiary should take the originals to the interview but make sure there are also more copies in case the embassy wants one.

If your lawyer send your petition to the wrong address I would say it is time to fire your lawyer, doesn't seem like he knows what he is doing does it.

Just remember all the USCIS forms that you fill in and sign need to be originals (no photocopied signatures)

Do we only send in the I-129F, G-325a's, and the Letter of Intent as originals? The documents with the real signatures?

Have faith that you can still make your May deadline. The timelines have always been incredibly long but once the change over has settled in the process times should begin to shorten. The best thing you can do is to make sure everything is there, listed properly and get it sent in. Also, if you get an RFE (Request for Evidence) respond as quickly as you can. Don't be the cause of further delays.

Have patience, it can still happen!
