Mistake costs illegal immigrant dishwasher $59,000

Lets assume he did pay taxes. Which over 11 years makes his tax burden about $9000 (more or less since tax rates have changed a bit over time). So he leaves the country with $50,000 instead. There are many people who would still be upset by that.

Penalties Interest, Fines for violating federal immigration laws,

So he owes money

Agreed.

As a group it appears that we hope/believe that our government will give us a fair shake. Most of us even hope for a break.

But, after reading the above, it is obvious that we really believe that the schmuck across from our fiance should throw the full might of the USA at her/him.

I believe the quote is, "let the punishment fit the crime".

Look at your siggy and let's talk about denial of paranoia.

The pics are there to show the stupidity of illegal immigration.

They found a different target.

You previously stated that people abroad dislike America because of their stance on illegal immigration. In reality all other developed countries out there have much more stringent immigration policies when compared to the US. Especially the EU.

I have two questions for you.

Are these nations also hated because of their stricter stance on illegal immigration? Keep in mind most of the nations I mention have an extremely high living standard.

Do you think these nations would be able to maintain their higher living standards with similar open-border policies and Laws, to that of the status quo here?

You need to get your facts straight. It wasn't me who said that.

Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented immigrant" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensedregistered pharmacist". (because somebody gives a damn)

Yes it was. What I asked above is in relation to the following comment.

All potential immigrants should read this thread. It would give them an idea of what sort of people we Americans are. No wonder we are hated throughout the world. It's not just our government it is people like some of you that have posted your hate here.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

It's all moot anyway. He was caught smuggling more than $10K out of the country. The penalty for that is forfeiture. Everything else regarding his status makes no difference.

pretty much. i still think his first mistake was crossing the border illegally and then working.

His first act on US Soil was willingly commiting a federal crime by illegally entering, then

He Illegally worked

Evaded Taxes for 11 years

And attempted smuggling illegally earnings across USA Border.

His choices prove he has no respect for the laws of the USA and should not be given any leniancy. Deportation and forfiture no more no less.

It amazes me how these Illegal criminals expect to be treated as if they did nothing wrong. What gives them the right to enter USA illegally, evade taxes, and defraud IRS/ & SS and then try to smuggled Illegal earnings across the border the violated hen they 1st entered. How stupid can one be.

lets call the forfiture of the money STUPID TAX!

Taking nothing away from the it's an illegal alien who has to comply with whatever laws, but, are there really people here who wish so ill on an individual, that they are glad to see someone who has worked hard for 11 years, have everything they saved taken away from them?

I can understand people having views about immigration laws, but to take any personal gratification out what is, whatever way you look at it, a tragic case, is beyone me.

The penalty for that is forfeiture if, in a court of law, it is demonstrated that you willfully evaded the law. And that hasn't happened.

Hehe, You think he wasn't hiding? Get real. He knew he was here illegally. He knew he was working without authorization. He knew he didn't pay taxes. Do you really think he would have declared the money?

That is the kind of sympathy I have for this guy. He has worked has ####### off for 11 years. Yes he did it illegally, but have some humanity. He did not sell heroin to our kids and he did not rob banks. The poor schmuck sweated his butt off helping keep our prices cheap. All so he could move back to his little town and help his family prosper. I just hope that he gets a fair and just punishment.

In a way it reminds me of the goldrush. These guys from the east moved out west and staked a claim and worked under horrible conditions to find what riches they could. Oh, and by the way, the land they staked their claims on belonged to the Native Americans. I don't think there were too many cases where a miner gave an indian a share of his findings. Anyway, the similarity would be if someone worked their claim but never filed their paperwork. When it comes time to cash in the gov says wait a minute. You don't have a claim on the land therefore the gold is not yours. Legit in every way but it still sucks. All because the proper paperwork was not filed.

Pedro sure should have checked before he did this. I don't think he could have wired the money anywhere but he sure could have purchased lots of travelers cheques or money orders. That would have been much easier and possibly even legal to transport through security and customs. I believe the Statute said "currency" did it not? I do not have to declare my checkbook or credit cards when traveling. Bummer Pedro...

If there was any doubt about the legitamacy of his claim to have earned the money, I think there would be very different charges haning over his head. Nice try at deflection though.
