to outlaw smoking in one's personal vehicle is a sinh of commies..i am glad i do not live in that autocratic shithole

In cars it seems a bit ridiculous, but I can see another side to it too - anything that distracts a drivers concentration from the road for any reason cannot be a good thing.

It's funny that everyone thinks it's OK to rag on smokers until something like this gets pushed through and it becomes evident how much tax revenue there in in a whole city's-worth of cigarette purchases.

No matter how bad it is for the health, this country can't afford to ban smoking. Not unless they raise a comparable tax from something else - what about your alcohol, gentlemen? Would it be worth having the hell taxed out of drink for the sake of being able to meaningfully ban smoking?

Make sure you're wearing clean knickers. You never know when you'll be run over by a bus.

What would the reduction of cancer cases save the taxpayer? Not immediately, but long term. I assure you that the long term savings will far outweigh the taxes collected on tobacco.

The alcohol, gentlemen? Gals don't drink, eh? Let me try and explain the fundamental difference: Standing next to a person that consumes alcohol may become unpleasant if that person decides to drink too much. But unlike standing next to a person that smokes, it has zero effect on my health. That's a pretty significant difference, don't you think?

While I like having a smoke-free environment in all restaurants here in Florida (a move that when it was debated was sure to bring down the restaurant industry in the state - as the tobacco lobby and those addicted to tobacco would have it - yet they're still alive and well), I hate having to walk and carry my baby through this fcuking cloud of cigarette smoke entering and exiting a restaurant. Smokers are overall pretty inconsiderate people. As a former smoker, I am comfortable making that statement.

Alcohol is a dangerous substance to be sure - but the consumption of it doesn't find its way by osmosis into the livers of the people on the next table.

It will be a Utopia where no one offends anyone else. I have heard of this town before - I personally think it's just weird.

Sitting here listening to the nearby shooting range, I can't help but think a tax of say 50 cents a bullet would more than cover off the revenue from banning smoking.

So true. I attended a wedding shower a few months ago where there were no less than 4 cancer survivors, including the bride. One lady had just recently completed surgery, chemo, and radiation. Another lady was pregnant. The smokers sat right down next to these ladies and lit up. I was horrified.

Sorry, but IMO most people are pretty inconsiderate, not just smokers.

Fine. Most people's lack of consideration for others doesn't make me sick, though. ;)

What about all the incosiderate people who come into work when they're sick and spread their germs all over the place?

I know everyone just loves to villify smokers though, so please continue...
