The basic problem is the OP apparently has never visited any of the forums for men who are pursuing women from the former soviet union (FSU). If you go to any of these forums you will find a topic listing Anastaciaweb as one if not the biggest scam agency out there. And this is the first site that most noobs find because they advertise everywhere and all the women are hot photos.

So I would suggest to the OP that he let this one go (lesson learned) and if he is serious about finding someone from the FSU that he spend a little time at places like rwadventures.com or russianwomendiscussion.com, or russianwomenforums.com There is a wealth of knowlege there from those that have been there done that.

Unfortunately there is a lot of this going on now.

But it's hardly suprising, is it?

It's like 'hookers on layaway'

Unless the USCIS completely prohibits anyone from using a marriage broker then people will use them. As I recall, there were a lot of people here on VJ all up in arms over IMBRA, and it actually focused on protection of the women being brought over here, so for every 'hooker' there's a wife beater looking for an easy target.

erm, and your point is what exactly?

You made a generalization about women who are on those sites, right? Would it also not be worth pointing out that, statistically speaking, a lot of foreign women have been subjected to violence or do you think they also get what they deserve?

Geez,

I tried to do the right thing, and in return I go treated like ######. Why?

it's a pretty tough crowd in here. i'm sorry you got scammed but always be doubting when someone is asking for money in an internet relationship.

No, I made a generalization of the SCAMMERS on those kinds of sites. Check the context as well as what I've quoted.

Edited to change 'that site' to 'those kinds of sites'

The OP said he went to Odessa to meet the woman, so why is everyone saying it's a Russian website? Odessa is not in Russia.

Andre,

I'm sure there are many here on VJ that have used a marriage broker and have had success, but I don't think you'll find too many who would believe that you were cheated out of your money because many here think the idea of arranged marriages through a broker is shady at best.

Shady, that is, if you put it mildly...

I also don't think too many folks on this site used this kind of service. Most seem to have met in more conventional ways...

the site is russian

I looked it up - it says they're located in Bangor, Maine.

Unless the USCIS completely prohibits anyone from using a marriage broker then people will use them.

I would be the first one to support such prohibition if it is ever proposed. I don't like marriage brokers

Yeah, it sucks when you go through the drive thru, order a wife with fries, and they give you a chicken sandwich instead.

Yeah, but I thought at the drive-thru, they 'do it all FOR you' - not 'to you'. :P

Sounds to me like you gave her gifts, etc. and asked her to marry you - which she eventually changed her mind about. Happens every day, all the time, even in relationships where people are on the same geographical plane.

Last time I looked for a boyfriend, I couldn't find any kind of a 'warranty' tag on him. American or otherwise.

I think we'd all be surprised, especially if you include international dating sites which, according to IMBRA, are different from marriage brokers. There's nothing conventional about dating a foreigner no matter how you met.

I dunno - I remember a poll here a while ago, seemed like most folks who met online met on Yahoo or other chat rooms... Not necessarily on the "dating" sites. Of course I don't know for sure.
