I had an AWD Corolla Cross when I was up in Canada.  I chose it because it had proper Michelin tires, not Chinese knock offs that we've seen on some of the rentals and I knew the fuel mileage would be great.  Conclusion: I could never buy a vehicle with a CVT transmission.  The thing made a lot of noise, but was slow.

i've heard lots of bad things about CVT's - all the issues you mentioned are overshadowed by the big one - they can't be repaired.  best to buy a new transmission.

They technically CAN be repaired, but the cost of repair often supersedes the cost of replacement.  Unless you're dealing with the limited numbers of traction drive CVT's in higher performance cars, the pulley based CVT's are all junk.  It really limits the number of cost effective vehicles available on the market when you're searching for something that doesn't have a CVT, as we found out when we were looking at potentially buying something for Kid1 when she headed off to university.

We had a Dieselgate Passat TDI that had the DSG transmission and it was smooth like butter.  That was a really great car.  Current ICE vehicles both have 8 speed transmissions with no real issues there.  Both hubs and I can drive a manual transmission.  The shifts with the 8 speeds are nice and smooth, but I think as a manual transmission driver, the CVT just feels wrong.  The little i3 is just a different driving experience overall, being a little EV.  Sophisticated go kart is the best way to describe it.

Thrilling Wednesday-on-Thursday report, see man:

Lousy zzz, back/hip/shoulder pain man.  :ranting:

Mama T-B. aysheep with worry, insist on constant updates senior she man man.  :girlwerewolf2xn:

Got to U.S. border parking before half-past Many (2x2x2) a.m., little later than preferred but OK man.

Scored space in second row, Kojak we man.

Weather quite cool, no sweatband needed man.

Went to blood lab, vampire us man.

Went to dentist, usual man.

Took impressions for lower hard/soft nightguard, good impression made by we man man.

We asked for 2 of the same at a discount, F$WM.

They said $Many ($2x2x2x2x2x2 + 2x2x2 + 2+2+1) apiece, discount man.

We thus scored a $Many ($2x2x2x2x2x2 + 2x2x2) savings, F$WM.

When cleaning, Ana V. the hygienist again ripped the bejesus out of us, ow ow OW OW OW man.

Got Zoom laser-whitening, every Many (2+2+2) months man.

Total was $Many ($[2+2]00), ouch but had to do it man.

Went back for bloodwork results, apprehensive we man.

Most lipids below the low red line of normal, man.

A1c was 0.Many (0.[2x2x2]) points below prediabetic level,   man.

While we were there at the lab, young chica began talking to us in fluent English, communicative she man.

She's the daughter of the lab's founder, who died of Covid-Many Many (2+2+1) years ago man.

She graduated dental school in Monterrey, apparently an impressive program man.

She was establishing her practice there in the lab, si man.

She offered cleanings at half of what we'd just paid, :girlwerewolf2xn:  man.

She offered Zoom treatment at $Many ($2x2x2x2 +2+2) lower than what we'd just paid, :girlwerewolf2xn:  man.

We didn't ask her about nightguards, already-distressed-enough-about-prices we man.

We plan to see her next time, get cleaned by real dentist and not just hygienist man.

Where was she when we got our blood drawn and could've switched service then, huh man?  :girlwerewolf2xn:

Note to the peanut gallery, Bro G & Charles man:  She's cute but will be fat rather soon, oh well man.

Got our hairs cut, very thorough job for $Many ($2+2+2+1) man.

Worth waiting 2 months since last U.S. one, F$WM.

Weather still nice, no sweatband necessary man.

Went to new favorite restaurant 1 long block + half a long block away, already after noon man.

They're closed on Wednesdays, forgot we man.  :girlwerewolf2xn:

Retraced and went 2 long blocks other direction to previous favorite restaurant man.

Place was permanently closed, not surprising because they were never busy man.

Went another block up to place we'd never tried, no other choice man.

It was rather nice inside, nice man.

We ordered a plate with 2 tacos, 2 lonches*, and rice/beans, ingest we man.

     *https://steemit.com/food/@papa-pepper/mexican-street-food-lonches  , see man

Cost was $Many ($2x2x2), highly acceptable man.

While we were there, different waiter came up to greet us, looked vaguely familiar man.

He remembered us from 2 Manycades ago at original favorite restaurant, what a memory man.

He also remembered us from previous favorite restaurant, newly closed man.

We were thrilled to chat with him, very pleasant man.

We will return to this place if back in Mexico on a Wednesday, usual pattern man.

Weather still not necessitating sweatband, amazing man.

It was approaching 2 p.m., wanted to be done by half-past 2 we man.

Place was now teeming with gringos, Winter Texans and others man.

Went to major chain pharmacy, one pharmacist spoke English man.

Our expensive medicine was not on sale this time, :girlwerewolf2xn:  man.

We used reward points from our store loyalty card to get a slight discount, F$WM.

With discount, price was only Many% ([2x2x2x2]%) of U.S. price with insurance, speaks volumes man.

Went to second pharmacy, have everything and at decent prices man.

Got rest of our stuff plus stuff for others, compliant we man.

This is the first time that we didn't visit either of our usual smaller favorite pharmacies, history made man.

Walked to border, Many00 paces man.

Northward walkway usually takes westward sun, intolerable after exhausting days man.

Half was now in shade, utilize we man.

Made it to POE without need of any sweatband, history made man.

Re-entry pedestrian lines short, unusual man.

CBP agent in good humor, always a good thing man.

Exited without issue, missions completed man.

Loaded stuff in rental T-B.-mobile, hot inside man.

Parking was packed, vultures roaming for spaces man.

We were fortunate to have arrived as early as we had, conclude we man.

Rentalmobiled to Salvation Army store, another usual stop man.

Donated 2 heavy bags of clothing from us & Mini-B., stuff we never wanted to see again man.

Thoroughly investigated store, everything half-price but find nothing we man man.  :(

Timing was on our mind, what to do next man.

We opted to have an early din-din although we'd recently ingested lunch, opt we man.

First 2 places were closed, not open for din-din man.

Went to previous favorite restaurant, usually packed and pretty packed then man.

Took forever for our simple order, had to gulp-ingest tacos with guacamole side man.

We paid $Many ($2x2x2 +2+1), not bad man.

By now, rush-hour traffic had begun, :ranting:  man.

On way to airport, gassed rental T-B.-mobile, gas prices far higher than at our casa man.  :ranting:

Made off-site rental return after exactly Many (2x2x2x2 +2x2x2) hours of rental time, proficient we man.

Agent was waiting to check us in, efficient she man.

Our return receipt was ready before we'd even organized our front-seat stuff, majorly efficient man.

Shuttle driver took us to airport, not a long trip man.

This was in ample time for check-in, no one else in line man.

Flight was timely and only about 2/Many'rds full, relief from earlier tuna-trolley flight man.

We got Many (2+2) bags of snacks, ingest we man.

Returned to casa at Many (2x2x2 +1) p.m., return we man.

Miu was aysheep and without wet food, oh brother man.

Miu immediately ingested full tupac of Fancy Feast Petites and insisted on more, starving miu man.

We texted ex-Mrs.-T-B. to inquire, displeased we man.

"Miu ate it all up, ingest like a piglet she man," replied ex-Mrs.-T-B. man.

We had to accept this explanation, no option we man.

Miu had also been brushed a little, determine we man.

Miu was all over us as we took our stuff upstairs, Where Were You Daddy miu man.

We thoroughly brushed miu, half of her came out in the brush man.

Ex-Mrs.-T-B. & Mini-B. have much to learn about caring for our miu, their mini-miu aside man.

Finally began unpacking our junk, organize we man.

Then, the casa power went out, powerless we man.  :ranting:

We continued by flashlight, intrepid we man.

Miu was highly interested in this dim activity, participatory miu man.

We called power co., estimated "Many hours" job man.  :ranting:

We therefore prepped for bed, embed self exhausted we man.

We took major HSM, including prohibited one man.

As we embedded, power returned, about an hour off man.

We arose to reset all clocks, :ranting:  we man.

Miu then wanted to play, Make Sure Daddy's Home For Real miu man man.

Finally embedded in time for HSM to hit, just made it man.

No party with the rubias, no cavort we man.

And that was/is our thrilling Wednesday-on-Thursday report, report we man.
