Hi everyone!

This is an update. I went to Cairo in March earlier this year. They scheduled us an interview in May and they approved my petition on the spot. They scheduled my father's appointment for August and he has been approved!!! His got his passport last week and now he is on his way here!

Thanks to everyone who replied to my questions.

PS My mother also had her interview (at a different post) and was also approved! They received their passports on the same day lol. So they will be arriving here together. I'm so happy that 2 years of stress is finally over!

Hi, Congratulations, that's good to hear a success story.

As for myself.

I’d like to bring my wife(Sudanese) to the U.S. She is currently in Egypt, and I visited her last month. While I was there, I was told that I need to start the application from the U.S., which I didn’t realize at the time. I now understand I should have started the process while I was still there.

My question is: can I submit the application online or by email and then get an appointment date for her, so I can travel there only when necessary? Or do I need to be physically present in Egypt just to start the application?

Also, could you please let me know what documents or paperwork I need to prepare? I’m willing to handle it myself, but someone offered to help for $1,000, which is more than I can afford right now.

Thanks for your help.

You just file online so can do it from anywhere. You don’t need to be in Egypt at all, spouses usually aren’t allowed in the interview anyway.

Follow this step by step guide which also tells you what docs you’ll need (most of them aren’t required until you actually apply for the visa - which will be at least a year ish in to the process). https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/step-1-submit-a-petition.html

Good luck.

Hello,

I filled out a pdf form of the i-130 and since you are applying for your spouse you need to provide marriage certificate (in english), her birth certificate (in english) and other documents which you can find on the internet. I applied for my father so I only needed to provide my birth certificate.

You then contact the us embassy in cairo. You need to go through the navigator and it will tell you the email and specific subject line to write. They will ask you for proof of entry of egypt for you and your wife. Your wife has to have been in egypt through a visa (which costs around $2,500)

I tried to go through the navigator to give you the link but it appears there's a problem with it.

If that doesn't work, you will have to go through the online process which will take over 2 years. You can apply the i-130 for $625 and then when it is approved about $445 for the NVC portion of the process.

Let me know if you have any other questions, I will be happy to help

Be cautious of any advice from others about whether you should do it yourself.  They know nothing more about your aptitude, attitude, or capability to do homework, read carefully, interpret literally, and respond accuratly, than that you found the wrong forum on this website and hijacked a post in the wrong forum.  Make your own decision based on those factors.
