Mother-in-law question medical insurance question

My wife came here on a K-1 in 2009, thank you all for the emotional support. She is a U.S. citizen now, we are thinking of bringing her Mom, a Filipina here as well. How do most people take care of Medical Insurance?

 

I work at a company with great insurance, and I have VA due to a disability, but I would like to retire in a few years, and the insurance issue really has me worried. I have been without medical insurance many times, but that was long before Obama care, which really stinks in comparison to most other forms of insurance. Thankfully during that period I didn't have any of the long term (diabetes, with BP issues) that I have now. If I am on Medicare, how could I insure her? Of course, we would have her apply for a green card as soon as it is allowable, but I don't know what my options would be.

 

In a previous life I had another Mother-in-law come here, she got Social Security but that loophole may have been closed. She and my ex have since passed away.

 

Any advice would be appreciated.

You do not insure her, she is the one that needs insurance. Or something.

 

Which  State would she move to.
 

ideally she will work do her 40 quarters and at least qualify for Medicare when she retires.

 

otherwise I assume she is looking at ACA.

There is a pinned thread about health insurance at the top of this forum section that you may find useful. The simple answer is someone is going to have to pay out of pocket for it. And that is going to be very very expensive. In some states now you cannot 'get' Obamacare until actually having the green card due to ongoing litigation and changes via the current administration.

I believe Kansas is one of those states affected by the December 2024 ruling involving DACA and some other status holders.  I think awaiting AOS is one of them (if I understand it correctly).  Those affected are not eligible for Marketplace .  Expert consultation recommended.
