I was given a 221G notice at the consulate since my medical exam was scheduled after the interview. Along with the notice, the officer also handed my passport back. The checklist mentions that once the medical is completed, the passport will be needed again for visa issuance.

I just wanted to check with others who have been in this situation:

  • Is it standard for the consulate to return the passport when 221G is issued for pending medicals?

  • After the panel physician uploads the results, does the consulate automatically ask for the passport, or do I need to submit it proactively?

Any experiences or guidance would be really helpful.

I am not sure there is a standard policy, there tends to be for standard procedures but not for exceptions

Always be proactive

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
