Hello All,

I would appreciate your advice on this matter.

We recently welcomed a baby here in Canada and are planning to permanently relocate to the U.S. by the end of July. My spouse and I already have our Green Cards, but our newborn does not, and the official birth certificate (issued in Quebec) won't be available until around August.

I understand that children are generally allowed to cross the land border with a birth certificate. However, since we won’t have that document by the time we plan to travel, I’m wondering if there are any alternatives we can use.

We do have the green attestation paper from the hospital, but unfortunately, it doesn’t include the names of the parents or the child.

Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You should start a separate thread outside of this one.  Baby needs proof of identity before you can bring them to the US.  Have you already activated your greencards or you have the I-551's in your passport and are waiting to come to the US for the first time?  This has a big impact on the correct path forward.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..
