AOS interview we got APPROVED

Just wanted to send a shout out that we had completed our AOS interview on 13 Aug and have been approved to receive her green card!

In a nutshell, we didn't really mind too much that it's only been 3 months since I sent in the I-485 and I-765 applications. My wife and I simply lived life like normal and paid barely any attention to how long it would take to process those applications. You can probably gain most of our story in my signature but for the most part, it seemed like it went by so quick. But for those who have just sent in applications or waiting for USCIS to say "it's your turn", please read on:

I sent in my wife's application in May this year. Nothing to it, just read the instructions, kept track of everything we did together (pictures, outings and whatnot), did everything I could to get her name on everything I had (apartment lease, life insurance etc). Being military, I was able to give her a dependant ID card which she could use to obtain several items. Soon after, we went to get her Social Security Number (easy process). We then proceeded to get her a driver's permit though she's had little luck with the tests. No biggy. The whole time our application was being worked, we nearly paid no attention to when we would hear something from USCIS. And then, we started getting mail by our 2nd month saying we had an appointment scheduled for Aug 13. Sweet! Ok, guess it's time to start putting things together. Carefully reading the I767C, I casually put together everything we would need for the interview. I never stressed about anything since I already had everything the list asked for. the only raised eyebrow I had was gathering enough evidence of our married life. After asking a close friend who just went through the same process, all we needed were pictures and documents with both our names on it, (anything "joint"). Cool, ready to go!

Just last week, I got email notices that my wife's EAD was being ordered. A couple days later (9 Aug), we got the card. Almost didn't see it in the mail, it was hiding underneath junk mail. Awesome, we used it the next day to apply for a job which she's been wanting to do. Then came time for our interview. We gathered everything possible so we could easily prove to the interviewer that we were true and deserving of that green card. My only worry was that I didn't have enough. We got to the given address and the only thing we got turned back on was that our camera phones weren't allowed in a Federal building. So don't bring anything with a camera! *hint hint* Got upstairs, placed our interview notice at the reception window and sat for about 10 minutes while chillin out and looking at our pics. Then they called my wife.

upon entering the interviewing room, the guy had us stand, raise our right hands and swear/affirm that we would tell only the truth (you know the oath). we sat down, chatted a little about me being military while he had a folder with what seemed to be everything I had ever sent in to USCIS, including my I-129F. He looked through my wife's G325A and asked us questions verifying her birthday, my birthday, her parent's names...then asked us how we met (gave him a simple answer, we both met online). He asked if we had anything we had both our names on, we showed him my life insurance form. He asked if she had an SSN, I showed him her SSN card. Finally he asked if she had an EAD, we gave him the card we received the week before. He then said, "you won't be needing that anymore." He explained that the stamp (I-551) on her passport would serve as proof of her PERMANENT RESIDENT status while it was effective. All in all, the whole interview was about 10 minutes!

As you can see, this whole process was fairly easy and quick compared to the whole waiting period for the I-129F. I've mentioned several times that we didn't stress at all about this. I will say this though; it does you no good to stress out over how long USCIS is going to work your case. At this point, if your fiance(e) is here and that you've married, you've sent in your applications in good faith (did your homework and sent everything the application instructions ever asked for), then all you can do is just start LIVING! Start your new lives together. You've already gone through the hard task of getting him/her here to the states. Once you've sent your AOS/EAD/AP applications in, "forget" about them and live your lives. Go out places, try new things as a new couple/family. Before you know it, you'll start getting those bits of mail like we have. It's hard to believe that it's already been three months since I first mailed off those forms. I was expecting three to four months and yet here we are.

It is in high hopes that what I've written here will help all of you who are going through the AOS process. Just like I've stated before during my K-1 process, RELAX! Do your homework faithfully, and don't think for one second that USCIS is going against you. They are working, trust me! Rather than spend all your time waiting for USCIS to get to you (even when you know it's going to take a while), that time will be much better spent being with your loved one.

~Cheers!
