Hi all, I just became a US citizen two weeks ago and I am ready to file for my parents , my case is pretty straight forward and I am still married with my US citizen husband and naturalized via 3 years rule(i485,i765,n400 all self filed and no issues)

My question is

1. do I need a lawyer for this process?
2. Is it complicated or different? Since different steps are involved?

3. Anyone that recently did this from Nigeria what was your timeline?

thanks in advance for responding

Your USC wife can walk you thru the process

its the same I 130 petition and steps she went thru to bring u here

guides above will also assist

no need for a lawyer / just complete all documents when needed and meet the income requirement

You really don't need a lawyer unless there are any complicated circumstances. Follows the guides on here as said above, and here is the official one which gives you a step by step overview of the whole process. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/step-1-submit-a-petition.html

Probably around 2-3 years before they set their foot on US soil.

Given the backlog at Lagos, I'd say maybe 3-4 years unless things speed up - hopefully they will by then though.

When I see Lagos I tend to think issues, presumably no late filed Birth Certificate?

I don’t understand, there is no issues on my end, my both parents are on my birth certificate as I just immigrated 5 years ago,

Do you mean my parents birth certificate?

I just gave an example of where the birth certificate was issued many years after the birth

Always a good idea to read thru the I 130 instructions before submitting them online

Each parent needs a separate I 130 with proper fee

at the NVC stage each parent will need the 2 fees paid to fill out the I 864 and ds 260 for each parent to become DQ (document qualified)

NVC and Lagos will work together to schedule the 2 interviews
