You've misread me. Unlike you, I am actually an advocate of opening our borders to immigrants that are from countries where due to the political climate the people of this area have their lives in danger....

I am not against this SA refugee program by Trump, I merely find it quite hypocritical for Trump to actively target lawful immigrants that arrived on Biden's CHNV program, and be vocal about how it was illegal for Biden to do that, and then turn around and do the exact same thing for SA.

Having to explain that humanitarian parole is not an immigrant status is exhausting.  The implications in the OP were that favoritism was being applied due to South Africa's associations with Elon Musk.  I attempted to explain that point but, as the media and folks who digest it do repeatedly, the facts were circumvented with "whites are all the same" argument.

Gishgalloping right around the point I was making, to assume I am opposed to refugee status, is insulting and in bad faith.  Our system works when it is allowed to work, in fact, and the years spent exploiting and ignoring the law now have serious repercussions that affect many people in this country, who if even well meaning in intentions have been misled by the previous administration.  So thank you so much for putting incorrect words in my court so I have the opportunity to correct that, immediately.

As far as I am aware there has been no study why people applied for the CNHV programme.

I would think most have no valid asylum claim,

Some I have seen have come for expensive medical treatment

Some have used it as a tourist visa with benefits

Many seem to have no idea what you need to do to qualify for asylum.

Some have just come for a better life, thinking it would be forever extended or not thinking what would happen after 2 years

I would have thought most Ukranian have no asylum claim, I remember one early case where it was being used as a shortcut to CR1, the lady had move to Turkey a very long time ago, but still had a residence in Ukraine, well an address she could use.

Others left they their countries decades ago.

And anyway if you did not come up in the lottery element you had years to wait, not that consistent with needing to flee.

Obviously Cubans could chill for a year and adjust under the CAA, the logic of which escapes me. They did block Cubans with EU passports doing the same via the VWP.

And of course for these programmes everyone of the nationality qualified, even if you were part of the ruling Junta.

Make it make sense.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I have it on accurate authority that Venezuelans here -- professional, business-owners, happily willing to assimilate, good entrants -- are self-deporting.  Many are returning to Venezuela, to uncertain but ominous futures.  On the bright side, Spain is accepting them with little visa hassle.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
