I am wanting to visit my aging mom and family in Montreal, however I have much trepidation about crossing the border.
Anyone have any experience with crossing lately; back into the US as a naturalized citizen.
I'm actually thinking of driving, again, from SFBA. It's a wonderful journey. I've done it twice.

I missed a letter in the subject title. I can't type! 😂

Thanks everyone for replying.
I was curious if anyone had issues like their phones being searched etc.
I just looked at a reddit on this topic and at the WA/BC border going north, the USCIS were stopping and searching every car on the way to Canada. That's a first. And of course there was a huge delay to get on with things.

I don't feel guilty about anything and still. So much has changed in travel and safety.

Outgoing searches happen occasionally if they are looking for specific individuals or have received tips of smuggling shipments. The outgoing searches at the WA/BC border the past week were a bit more extensive than usual, perhaps one car in three got a more thorough screening and it went on for days, but it's not without precedent.

I've done hundreds of land border crossings as AP/LPR/citizen, tens of them since the new administration, never once had my phone searched. You have nothing to worry about.

That's so great to hear!

I applied online for NEXUS not knowing about Global Entry, April 2024. No notices yet. And Nowhere to change my info to citizen. I'll be bringing all my paperwork to the interview I guess.

If your NEXUS was already active you would just take your naturalization certificate and US passport to any NEXUS enrollment office (no appointment needed). With your application still pending you'll be fine bringing them to the interview, they can update the info on the fly.

Thanks so much. I'm finally getting myself together to drive north from SF to Vancouver. Possibly next week. I'll see what I can find out at the border.

Still concerned about the return trip at the US customs. Things change all the time, and recently a friend cautioned me about my naturalized citizenship that the feds might do some dastardly deeds to those of us with this status. Sigh.

Unless your naturalization was fraudulent, you have nothing to fear......The outlier cases are being reported as frequent.  It's the corrupt and dishonest news media.

The Blaine enrollment center is 10 minutes south of the border - if you have active NEXUS status you can drop in to present naturalization documents.

As for crossing the border - nothing to worry about as long as you have a US passport, since you must use that to reenter.

The only ones being pursued for denaturalization on any sort of legal basis are people who demonstrably lied on their naturalization application, specifically the "Have you EVER..." questions. That is, they lied about events that transpired BEFORE naturalization. I am not aware of anyone being denaturalized for actions/crimes/... taken AFTER naturalization.

I'm squeaky clean!
I've had to do police checks (FBI I guess) to work at UC Berkeley, and other jobs as an AV tech. I'm not worried about being found out about anything. I dont even have a speeding ticket. 😊

Thanks everyOne for your guidance and assurances. Really 🙏❤️
