Applied for B1/B2 visa after current 10 year visa is about to expire. Qualified for dropbox appointment but was apparently called for an interview at Embassy in Delhi. Went for an interview and it went smooth but got 221G (Additional admin processing). We are party of 5 (Husband, wife and 3 kids). When I checked CEAC tracker, it shows approved for wife and 3 kids but refused for husband. Now, we got an email with letter (See attached). Now, the thing is the letter mentions several points that are irrelevant from a tourist visa perspective. So I am looking for suggestions on what points to include in my resume. Is there any format or template available that I can use. Points like Research, Funding, Itinerary are irrelevant at this point as I haven't made any travel plans yet. Any suggestions, advice will be greatly appreciated.

PS: Have only visited US once and stayed for about 3 weeks.

They’re not irrelevant, they’re for background checks. Probably something on the DS-160 or your social media triggered a concern that they want to look at. Just provide everything asked for and hopefully you should be fine

Good luck.

The points aren't irrelevant if they have asked you for information on them.

You should include information on every point, your full resume of education and employment background.

Have you worked or studied in biological, chemical, nuclear research, AI, GPS, etc? It is a routine request for people in STEM fields as you could be regarded as a security risk.

Hello, thank you for your responses. The main applicant is not from a stem field and runs a small business in a tier 3 town in India (Income is still high). The business sells a common/commodity material used in construction. Main applicant has never worked for any army or agency that will raise red flags. He is part of family business taken over from his dad. Where to get research details when main applicant is not into any research? Also other fields asking for funding and itinerary are not relevant to tourist visa if you look at the letter closely!

Yes, but if you look closely at the letter, they are asking for research and other details that are not at all relevant to a tourist visa. Did you see the attached letter? Main applicant is not a researcher or from any STEM field. He runs a small business of commodity material used in construction.

You can leave the non applicable points out, such as research, invitation from an organization etc. But answer everything else to the best of your ability.

Not true.

How are you funding your trip, getting there, duration of stay and returning?

What do you have planned while in the US? Would be a red flag for a family vacation from India to US to not have some sort of planned excursions or contact details/address of where you will be staying.

Both very relevant to a tourist visa.

I am just confused as to what to include and what not. In the funding description, it clearly says "Name and letter of support from the organization funding your trip"? So that question is clearly targeted to someone who is selected for a PhD or something like that. I have clearly stated in my application that it is self funded. And with regards to itinerary, they themselves state that don't make any plans or purchase tickets before you get a visa. But anyways, as most of you have suggest, I will provide the details that suits my case. Thanks.

Do you realize this is a generic letter isn't worded for you specifically?

They give thousands if them and include every possible piece of info they may need from visa applicants?

As overall advice, you must show concerted effort and attention.  Leave nothing blank.

Re-answer questions that you answered the first time.

Put N/A - [reason] for questions that truly don't apply (you have mentioned some).

For itinerary that you can't finalize yet because you have no visa, supply a prospective itinerary, and explain why it's prospective ("instructions are not to buy tickets, etc. until the visa is granted, but these places and lengths of stay are anticipated: ___, ___, ___").

Like anything else surrounding visas, you should read carefully, interpret literally, and answer completely & honestly.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

You’re being a little coy about what might be the very reason for additional administrative processing.  You have said a coupe of times that you sell and export “a common/commodity used in construction”.  What, exactly, are you selling? And, to whom do you sell it?  And, when you specifically say it is a “small business” but the “income is still high” — something doesn’t quite match.  If you answered the questions the same way on your application and during the interview, it likely raised questions in the interviewer’s mind.
