We got the I-130 approval last Saturday. How long until we receive the NVC welcome letter?
 

I see the official site processing times say it is currently creating cases for April 7 (three weeks ago) but is that accurate?

It seems to usually be pretty accurate (ours was pretty much to the day), but note it’s only updated once a week.

Just as a general rule of thumb from someone who is still in the I-130 stage but has dealt with the government a decent amount: you should assume most estimates from USCIS/DHS are wrong, and can assume most estimates from the State Department are correct.

And I take it NVC take the beneficiary’s email address from the I-130 to contact them?

For us the e-mail was addressed to both the petitioner and the beneficiary.

 

The NVC case creation date they list can be skewed a little bit because it is an average of all immigrant visa types that go through NVC.  Spousal visas tend to be more straightforward and the cases may get created faster than the overall average.

It looks like yours is a K1 case though? So a very different process.

That’s right! We heard wait times were getting longer. So I’m sure this is just the new normal.

No idea about K1’s I’m afraid. CR1’s wouldn’t wait anywhere near 6 weeks, but as above it’s a very different process.
