Didn't lie or anything. I consulted an attorney. He suggested that. According to him, I didn't have police report. So my case is weak. I had proof in the form of medical report.  Had letters from friends and family. However, he made me scared.

What you had was clearly enough for the CO to approve your case.

I know the search function can be a pain in the rear, but please look up what others have experienced before making up your mind.

Trying. If you could find any thread, I'd appreciate that too. These lawyers have made me skeptical .

No, currently those who applied 3 years ago are eligible for visas. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/legal/visa-law0/visa-bulletin/2025/visa-bulletin-for-april-2025.html

So yes, it’s longer than if you were a citizen, but why wouldn't you just apply now and then be much further along by the time you are eligible to apply for citizenship? Rather than starting from scratch in 2028?

That's new. I am gonna work on it now.

Here's a link someone posted in another member's thread about their experience. I'll try to find more.

You're welcome

@Demise Might have some advice also. She is pretty active in the VAWA thread too.

It’s not new, it was even current a couple of years ago.

Once you’re a citizen you can ‘upgrade’ the petition anyway, but the petition is currently taking ~18 months so unless things speed up considerably, you may as well get things started and hopefully it’ll be quicker if you petition her now.

The date for filing for that category is October 2024, so if you got married last year and had petitioned her straight away, she’d have applied for her adjustment of status by now.

Good luck.

Read through this and let me know if you have any follow up questions, but for the most part, it should just be the general stuff they want from every applicant for naturalization, you know taxes, any arrests, convictions, etc, etc.

Only circumstance where you might need more proof is if you originally got your green card while your ex was an LPR (so category code B21, BX1, B26, or BX6) or got it via cancellation of removal (Z14). Or if you got an I-751 VAWA waiver, in case of which your category code would be IR1, IR6, or IF1, and you'd need to include a copy of the approved I-751.

Just to add:

For B21, BX1, B26, BX6 - you'd need to attach proof that ex naturalized more than 3 years ago.

For Z14 you'd need to attach proof that ex is a citizen, has been a citizen for 3+ years, and proof that you were married.

For IR1, IR6, IF6 following an I-751 battery/abuse waiver you'd need the I-751 approval notice stating as such.

They shouldn't really ask more than cursory questions about the stuff in the prior VAWA.

It's IB6 and my spouse was a born US citizen. Cursory!!!Hmm. Any explanation of this word would be appreciated.  I was reading VAWA forum.Saandra indicated they are asking about dates and abuse details at POE ?

Cursory - surface level.
Now, I will just say it - I haven't naturalized yet, I haven't been to any naturalization appointments otherwise, I've been kinda on and off with this site since I got my green card, so I have no idea what it actually looks like on the ground. If you're worried bring a lawyer with you.

You are a gem.

Yes, she is.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
