They haven't since we're still within the timeframe they have to respond.  And no changes to my case in CEAC.  This email didn't even correspond with a case update, which it usually does when I get those generic email responses from them.

Thanks.  I’m aware the government has 60 days to respond; was just wondering if there was any activity after a month since WOM filing.

Given that a DS-5535 was provided almost a year ago, and that a WOM has now been pending for a month, I’m inclined to believe there has been a degree of SAO vetting which potentially might result in a denial, BUT that further security screening remains to be done which, depending on results, will in cause reconsideration of visa eligibility.  I would say your case is moving along

which potentially might result in a denial,

Why would the consulate use the word "Denied" rather than "Refused" or "Administrative Processing" ?

Hi All,

I just received this email from the MTL consulate.  Is this any different from what I've been in since being placed in AP?  Or is this the final decision by the embassy?  I'm coming up to the year mark since my interview... Being in AP is one thing but I truly have no idea why I would be denied.  If anyone has any insight it would be appreciated.

Good afternoon,

The consular officer, after carefully considering your application and reviewing all available information, determined you have not established that you are eligible for a visa and denied your visa application under INA 221(g).  Additional security screening is being conducted.  Depending on the screening results, a consular officer may reconsider your eligibility for the visa.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Regards,

Looks like additional screening.

When was your interview and if you had any updates recently to your dates..

I can’t answer for the MTL Consulate, but as I am casually interpreting this, the case has already been both in Refused status and under AP and now, based on whatever SAO investigative determination has been completed, it’s in Denied status BUT pending further security screening which might, once fully finished, result in visa approval/adjudication

I am currently waiting for a response from them after filing my WOM as well and we are nearing the 60 days on April 5 and have not heard anything and no updates on CEAC either.

But the use of the word "denied" is weird and concerning.  "Refused" would be more appropriate for a case in AP.

Agreed.  Yes, “denied” and “reconsider” at this point in the AP process for this case is an eye opener

Hey, I just received word for word the same response to an email I sent a couple weeks ago. Not sure what to make of it to be honest. "Additional security screening is being conducted" to me means DS-5535 is still ongoing but there's definitely a more negative and stern undertone to this response.

Have you filed a WOM?

After taking a careful read of the reply. It just clearly states the current status of the visa process which is that we are denied visa when  our interview occured and they are currently working on the SAO vetting process because our name or background falls under the security related process.

This is my understanding and will not be surprised if most of us receive similar reply rather than the other template response.
