Tourist visa for in-laws in Colombia

I'm new here to the forum. My spouse is Colombian and awaiting the interview for her residency (she's been in the US for two years), two close family members of hers are interviewing tomorrow for their tourist visa. One is a teacher and the husband is retired, and neither of them have traveled outside of Colombia, nor own property. Is there any advice to pass along to them as far as paperwork, how to prep, what to bring to the interview?

 

I told them to answer only the question that's being asked and not to give more information than necessary, "Do you know what time it is?" "Yes." Be direct, clear and confident. Not sure what else to tell them. Will the be asked about family in the US, how should answer those sorts of questions? Should I write an invitation letter? They would use my travel benefits since I'm employed with an airline. 

 

it would be great to have them come visit, I would like to take them to see Washington DC and New York before or after they visit us in Florida.

bring everything that show their ties with their home country.

do not give it to IO without asking. i brought the whole house, offered and IO got pissed at me and said " dont give me anything if i didnt ask" yes sir ! 

 

they already reviewed that DS-160 and usually just want to confirm the answers. so make sure they understand the DS-160 information. its their own anyway. 

 

i said it hundred times, invitation letter is useless but even few of my friends fought me on that one and they said their mother, father, granpa, grandma, neighbour got their tourist visa because of the USC/GC holder wrote invitation letter. 

 

and what you said its correct. dont blab too much and dont do story telling in front of IO. they can ask anything they want. can be about the trip, family, etc

The average interview is very quick, they will be asked 2 or 3 simple questions, very unusual for any documents to be asked for, they have noway of verifying them and most documents mentioned are not relevant.

 

The information they need is on the DS 160

Only time I've ever heard them ask to look at documents is when the purpose of travel is due to some official and specific reason, like being invited to some special event when you're going to perform, speak, etc.

 

Never heard of them ever asking for family trip or vacation related documents. Perhaps it happens, but must be rare.

They were approved for their tourist visa, so I'm pretty happy that it went well. can't wait to have them visit. Thanks for all the replies.

Great news! Can you share the experience. I think it is very helpful for other members to hear about interview experiences for tourist visas as the belief is they will be denied so there is no point in applying.

They were asked about family in the US, where in the US they're wanting to go, what their profession and salary is, grandkids in the US. I believe that's all they were asked.
