My I-130 was approved 9/14 and my partner (petitioner) received the courstey I-797C approval notice online but it says an official one will be sent. We received the I-797C courtsey approval one in the mail after 7 business days, when can we typically expect the formal watermarked I-797 approval notice?

Thanks! This is just an anxious experience and we just want to make sure we're doing things correctly. We assumed the I-797 official mail is needed to file the I-824.

If you got a paper notice by mail, that's it.  Not really important, as the notice will say the case has been sent to NVC.

Gotcha - so I have to file a I-824 to send my approved I-130 case to NVC unfortunately. Does this change whether I need the official I-130 approval notice to attach to my I-824 application or the courtsey one is sufficient? I overworry

No. A photocopy of the I-130 approval is all you need

Well that was a detail missing that I either missed or you did not mention.

Now your OP no longer confuses me.

Sorry! I honestly didn't know whether it would be sent to our lawyers or not becuase previously, my partner / petitioner would recieve all the equivalent forms. We had a change of lawyers as well so knowing USCIS, we were hoping it would have just been sent directly to us.

Was form G-28 filed? On the form there are check boxes instructing USCIS where to send notices, cards etc - you or your lawyer.

Ask the lawyer for a copy if unsure what was checked on it, so you know where to expect letters from USCIS.
