Hi All.

Our K-1 petition was approved on Aug 16th 2023.

My fiancé and I are waiting for welcome letter from NVC

While waiting for the welcome letter, as beneficiary I like to start collecting required documents.

I used to live in Malaysia on May to November 2006.

I checked on the US embassy website, I will only need police certificate country of residence for six months or more and all countries where I have lived for one year since age 16.

Then, on the same website again,

  • Police certificates from your present country of residence and all countries where you have lived for six months or more since age 16 (Police certificates are also required for accompanying children age 16 or older)

Does (did) anyone has experience with police clearance certificate?

Should I still need to present police certificate from Malaysia?

I am bit confused with these different information from same sources.

Really appreciate for you advice.

many many thanks

https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country/Malaysia.html/ says because you resided there under 12 months, you cannot get a police certificate.

IOW, even if the U.S. consulate demands you get one, the government of Malaysia will not give you one:

  • Pre-Condition for Foreigners: Foreigners, who wish to apply for Certificate of Good Conduct, Must have resided in Malaysia for a period of at least 12 consecutive months under long term social visit pass – employment pass, student pass, spouse of Malaysian, expatriate pass.

I suggest you print out the relevant page which Mike E quoted and bring it to the interview.  My fiance (now wife) was asked about her police clearance that she could not obtain because she was not residing in country.  She presented the embassy official with those pages.  They were satisfied with the explanation those pages provided.
