I just bought a brand new Corolla LE. I'm not sure how many people out there can actually buy a car outright without a loan, but I know I'm not able to. I will keep this car until it falls apart. Just like I did with my truck that had 230,000 miles on it. Quite a difference going from 14 mpg to around 40.

I pay around $320 every 6 months for insurance.

My insurance is high where I live. I live in the city with the 3rd highest auto-theft rate in the US. And it's only a city of about 500,000 people.

But 10%??? Oh wow!!! My husband bought a car last year and got 5% at the car dealership, that really surprised me.

Have you thought about refinancing somewhere else with a lower intrest rate? I'd definitley do some research on that!!!

I think VWs are excellent cars, I leased a Jetta back in 2000 and absolutely loved it. Most people I know who own one haven't had any problems either. And honestly, $377/mo for an almost new VW is not bad at all, trust me.

I also have Geico and again $92/mo for a VW is not bad either. Car insurance rates are based on the type of car you have, age and location and again, yours isn't that bad.

Congratulations! It's a beatiful car, you're going to love it.

Insurance is based on so much - a persons age, marryed or not, years driving in the US, clean record, the car make and model, it's safety features, 2 door or 4, how often that model of car is in accidents and stolen, where you live and even your credit history. So my husband has been in the US now for 4 months. We live in NY on Long Island. We looked at insurance for him on a 93 Honda Accord vs a 94. The 93 was over a $1000 more per year for insurance as a new driver married!!! The 6 month for the 93 was $1372 and the 94 is $871. So we bought the 94 Accord to save money! LOL So one year out from now we will be $1742 poorer and that is with Progressive - who the OP said gave you the cheapest rate. Welcome to NY

Decide on what you want, then send emails to every dealership in the area: "I'm gonna buy a VW Jetta, blue, black leather interior blah blah blah". Tell them you're buying in a week and the best quote for that specific car gets your business. We got my wife's brand new 2005 Mazda 6 for $1400 under invoice as a result.

I might be beneficial though to read over their report for on the last years of the Jetta to see what specific problems you might face, especially while it is still under warranty.
