She is now in the U.S. and the fees might be different, especially if you DIY and especially since a separate I-751 must be filed (and the fees will be hiked).

The  link  I provided is to a thread where Dad adopted his step daughter instead of filing I-751. He did it DIY, with Dad and daughter representing themselves in court.

Adoption would save your step daughter from the trauma of I-751. I have seen too many tragedies with K-2 kids having their lives shattered by this  detestable RoC process.

Thank you so much for your time and feedback.

I will be reading up on the thread you shared and the requirements on adoption for my state of residency again.

You were right with your assumption.  She came with K2. It was a typo

Then you have your answer in the I751 instructions on page 1.

Please be sure of your visa type when posting and ensure your VJ timeline is always updated (it is not as of now if your K1 filed I751 already).

VJ even made a emoji to remind you that as a member, your timeline needs to be filled out to be helped efficiently.

Please edit.

He just had his 485 approved which I believe is on the timeliness.  I751 is in 2 years

I forget what country they are from. Depending on the Country you will also need the Mother to give up her parental rights. Not all countries take away parental rights when the other parents get custody, the birth parents still have rights. If this is the case it is another step that need to be taken.

The thread linked above did not have to go down that path as the PI has a different set of laws when it comes to custody for single mothers. My husband also wanted to adopt my kids and get them USC faster and as early as possible. But adoption for us was not an option as Canada makes it almost impossible to get the other parents parental rights removed.

Have you adopted her?

Sorry for the late response.

We went to court and we were granted full custody. I didn't fill adoption papers or anything related.

Please experts, I have a quick question, does a k3 child who have the 2 year residency permit need to file for removal or the parent when he becomes a citizen a year after can file for her citizenship?

Thanks.

Sorry she came on K2. K3 was a typo
