Application Received for over a Week

Hello so I had my k1 visa interview on June 6. I was approved and told I can pick up my passport within 7 days. It has been 2 weeks and no news. On June 12 CEAC updated from ready to application received. No updates since. Is this normal? I got the interview via an expedite request and I do have a difficult situation, any ideas why it’s taking so long if I was approved? Should I be worried. The embassy still has my passport. So just to provide full context, case was sent to a certain country from NVC, I transferred to a different country and that country  accepted with an expedite request. During interview the officer had an issue with my fathers name and sent me to a second officer, second officer wanted pictures of my father which he let me send him during the interview via WhatsApp, I was told to wait after and the first officer called me back and told me congratulations on visa approval. I asked when I can pick up the passport she said within a week. It’s been 2 weeks. Sorry for long post but it’s been a terribly long process. I would appreciate any information.

Unfortunately it is just a waiting game until CEAC shows the visa has been "issued" regardless of what a CO said at the interview.  You can try contacting the consulate, but more than likely you will just get a form response, etc.

Good Luck!  Hopefully, you will hear something soon.

Unfortunately, COs often mislead applicants by saying things like “you’re approved” or “your passport will be ready within a week”. Those are just simply statements that you can’t rely on. It sounds like you’re in administrative process. There’s nothing you can do but wait, expedite doesn’t mean they will waive administrative processing.

So I can be in administrative processing and the embassy won’t tell me? They still have my passport. Any idea how long it could take?

Every applicant has to go through admin processing so it’s not something that has to be announced. Some take days, others weeks or months. I know someone who was in admin processing for 14 months

Sadly, MENA cases are often subjected to extended AP.  AP cannot be expedited.

So this isn’t normal processing? I should expect a long wait? They have my passport and I’m on a visa in Oman. I can’t go back home to iraq and wait?

Difficult to say.  If this is an extended administrative processing case, it could be several more weeks or months....or even longer.  I would contact the consulate and ask if they anticipate a long wait.  You could also ask them to return your passport if you need to return to Iraq, but that will complicate things even more.

Thanks, I sent them an email. I heard they are really busy with graduation and travel season, could that play a role in my visa taking longer to process?

Could be, could be someone is on vacation.  Unfortunately no one knows for certain, so we are all just guessing.

You can request your passport back and return to Iraq and wait. Or you can stay in Oman and wait. If your visa for Oman is about to expire you can request the passport back for that reason (to exit the country so you don't overstay).

You should do what is best for you.

Good luck. I hope the visa is issued soon.
