Please help - How to maintain LPR status?

My wife had just entered the US on an IR1/CR1 visa. Entry date was Apr 21 so very very recent. We just found out that we need to return to her home country for urgent family reason and might need to stay for more than 1 year.
 

What are our options to maintain her LPR status? 
 

We have read about the re entry permit process, but unsure if we’ll be able to stay till we receive green card. We aren’t sure how long till she receives hers.

If she doesn't have GC or re-entry permit, she'd have issues coming back to the US. She may need to relinquish her LPR status and start from scratch when ready to move to the US.

 

I don't believe there's many options for maintaining status in this situation, but others can advice.

 

If she already had GC in hand that would be a risky move, but she could try leaving without approved re-entry permit, after doing biometrics for it.

Apply for the reentry permit now. Wait until she has done biometrics or been advised on her USCIS case status that biometrics already on file  have been used. Leave as soon as that happens. Request on the application for the permit to be sent to the home country US consulate to be picked up.

This is the best course of action ^^^^^.

 

Also, make sure she doesn’t leave the US until she is sure the I131 has been accepted by USCIS to avoid any future headaches.
