DS-160 is ok to submit, scheduling the interview depends on how your embassy works. Best to wait until CEAC shows  "ready". Some embassies also want you to send some documents before the interview, for those you do gotta wait until they reach out.

Your embassy doesn't let you schedule the interview once it turns to ready? :(( I am sorry. Same situation as @FilledesEtoiles it seems.

You can fill and submit DS-160 now, no problem at all. Not sure about scheduling the interview, depends on your embassy.
Also, note that the fee for us K1s is not $160 (it's actually $185 now for non-immigrant visas). Our fee is $265.

Hi Sarah, I think we will wait until we receive package 3.

i go on vacation to visit my fiancé in 3 weeks but I’m worried to receive the package 3 during it. What is best to do?
can we still travel to the USA if we submitted the ds-160?

Everything now depends on the embassy. Your timeline is not filled but I am assuming it's Amsterdam looking at your posts?
I only know one person that went through there. I know Amsterdam received the K1-FTP by mail as well (Italy too). But you already got it, so no worries. I am unsure about packet 3 but *most* embassies send out the P3 by email only.

When it comes to DS-160, you do need to inform your travel history to US in there. So you'll be missing one trip if you do travel after submitting it. I am really not sue if this will be an issue or not, I don't think so but maybe the consular officer may ask about it.
I think it all boils down to the fact that your embassy would let you or not schedule the interview before the packet 3. If they do allow you, then you'd be losing time if you waited on the packet 3 to arrive by email. Are you able to reach out to other people going through the same embassy to find out? I'll see if I can reach to the one I know.

Hi Sarah,

thank you for your help.

for the Dutch embassy we need to make an appointment through a website and on the embassy page it mentions that you can’t book an appointment until you receive a letter. I think “package 3” also contains a “appointment request page”. So I will be waiting until we receive the package 3 to do the ds-160 since I can’t book it in advance either way.

do you think I can still go on vacation? And just submit things while I’m there if we receive anything during that time?

I will let you know what I can find from the other filer. I unfortunately don't have much knowledge for Amsterdam. Not many K1s there.
And even though my embassy also tells me to wait and all, we don't and it works. But I can't say anything about others, don't want to give out wrong info here.
Check the info here too: https://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=Netherlands&cty=Amsterdam
Seems P3 is mail?! This was updated this year too, so guess it's recent info.

I am really not sure about travelling... see if you can post it on the general travelling forum here to see other people's opinions. I never encountered a situation like that.

Ok, more info I just got: everything comes by email for ND. The only thing that comes by mail is the K1-FTP that is kinda useless and you also get it by email.
Seems you don't need for the P3 to wait to schedule the interview, but I would confirm first with the embassy. Maybe they end up sending you the P3 quickly this way.

Do you know if the required documents to sent back to the embassy is through e-mail too?

I can try to find out but *most* embassies will send you instructions only and you gotta show up with all the right documents at the moment of the interview. The only ones I know for certain that need documents sent to them by email before the interview are Montreal and Tokyo.

Hi,

okay thanks! All we can do is wait and see. We have already prepared all documents we can (that we know we need) so now we just have to wait for the instructions to come.

how long does it often take for the embassy to receive it from the nvc and sent you an email/mail?

Is it possible to start the DS-160 ahead of time (meaning, while you’re waiting for a case number)?… or is this dependent on your particular embassy?.. I see on the online DS-160 form, it allows you to save as you go.
has anyone started their DS-16O before getting a case number?

It's actually the same as in Brazil ! They recommend waiting until they send you the receipt notification. I did end up booking because my wedding is end of October and I don't want to reschedule for the 3rd time in a row ...they actually just want to make sure they have your paper file there, and mine was sent on 2 August ... , I checked again with NVC. Hopefully we will get that email asap now !

Well, we made today's mail-shot.. After 20 months, it's finally heading for London. 🙂 My fiancee got the K1-FTP e-mail this morning. Here's hoping that goes to "ready" before too long.

London is very quick with lots of appointments ! You have nothing to worry about

Wait until it gets ready to send that, not before
