My sister-in-law obtained her US passport through the U.S. embassy back home. The embassy did not give her a CRBA because she was over the age. She was able to get her US passport since her dad served in the Army. Now, she wants to petition for her husband. How can she obtain proof of her citizenship, besides her passport?

I’d appreciate all your input!

Passport proves Identity and Citizenship.   Why would you need something other than passport?

USCIS asks for birth certificate (if US born), certificate of naturalization or certicate of citizrnship when sponsoring a foreign spouse.

@Alsharai your sister in law can apply for N-600 to get certificate. She'd need paperwork and evidence though.

uh, the i130 instructions (02/13/19 version) I read has his:

  1. What documents do you need to show that you are a U.S. citizen?

    1. A copy of your birth certificate, issued by a civil registrar, vital statistics office, or other civil authority showing

      that you were born in the United States;

    2. A copy of your naturalization certificate or certificate of citizenship issued by USCIS or the former Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS);

    3. A copy of Form FS-240, Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA), issued by a U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate;

    4. A copy of your unexpired U.S. passport; or

    5. An original statement from a U.S. consular officer verifying that you are a U.S. citizen with a valid passport.

    If you do not have any of the above documents and you were born in the United States, see the What if an officialdocument is not available section of these Instructions.

those are an "or",  so 4 "A copy of your unexpired U.S. passport"  is good enough to proof that they are a U.S. Citizen.

Mmm not true. I wasn't born in the US and I just used my US passport to prove my citizenship and be able to sponsor my husband.

Was visa issued already or it's still in the process?

We are waiting for interview letter. One of my friends did it this way with no problem AND on the nvc site it says US passport serves as primary evidence of citizenship.

Plus, wouldn’t they ask for it in USCIS and NVC stage if it was mandatory in addition to the US passport? It seems like they would at least mention it and not let us move to the last step.
