Comments : Going to pause the process at NVC, delaying filing the DS-260 for ~6 months. After the interview (on August 7th) which resulted in a white 221(g) waiting for my certified divorce paperwork from my first wedding. Finally got the right paperwork to consulate in Rio on Tuesday the 12 of September, they looked at the case on Friday the 15 of September. Changed to AP at that point, and September 18th changed to Issued. mailed on the 20th, received on the 22nd.

Consulate Review: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : August 9, 2023
Embassy Review : My wife was scheduled for her interview at 7:20am on August 7th, of 2023. She had with her a copy of my passport with Brazil stamps (that it did not sound like they looked at), my US-based car insurance, an updated document with photos (1 or 2) photos per page with a list of time, date, where, and who was in the photo. And her old passport with her expired tourist visa. She entered at 7:01am she was the 4th of the non-tourist line to enter. The first 3 of the non-tourist people left at 8:09, and my wife left at 8:59am. She received a 221(g) because she had a brazil authenticated copy of my US divorce instead of the original (or certified copy) (working on that). She said all the tourist families with little children took priority.
As for the questions, just 3:
Has she had trouble with the police in either USA or Brazil?
If she worked while she in in USA?
And if she knew her tourist visa was expired and cannot be used anymore?

Rating : Very Good

Hi Troy, Did you delay it after paying the fees? Just by not filing the ds260 or AOS? We are trying to delay the process a bit as well, since we're expecting
Troy B on 2023-06-27 said:
Yes, I made the payment, but then delayed filing the ds260 or AOS. Reminder you have to pay within the first year, and then you need to proof contact yearly, the note I had created (based on what I read here on some thread) was: Use the AskNVC web portal. Only a simple message is required, such as "I need more time for our case. This is my record of annual NVC contact." Upside: You will receive an immediate e-mail record of your contact with the NVC including all the communication detail. In the e-mail, it states: "Please retain this e-mail as a record of your contact with NVC"

Thank you. I've read about that. We will only delay it for a few months. Anticipating to move mid May 2024, hence will upload all evidence around October

Glad everything worked out, Troy! Let me know (write a review) how POE for JFK went. That will be mine as well next year May. Good luck!

Yep, planning on it.

Change of plans, trip to JFK is coming later (May or Jul I think, part of a rescheduled trip to Sharm el Sheik, Egypt). Now planning Chicago (ORD) entry on the 29th of December.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
