Rescheduling oath when out of the country [split topic]

Hi, this is the only forum I found about the topic. I had my interview on January 20th (one day before a trip) I was approved and they said I could do the Oath Ceremony that day, but I wouldn't be able to travel the next day because of the passport. I told the officer that I won't be back until the end of March. Today I checked my USCIS online account and it says I was scheduled (today) for March 2nd for the Oath Ceremony. I called the number on the notice to reschedule and the lady said I have to send a letter, but what the officer told me is something different. I am afraid the letter won't get there on time (before my appointment March 2nd) and I might run into issues later on. Is there anything else I can do?

Yes, you can cancel your travel plans and attend the ceremony on March 2nd. Is the trip urgent? More urgent than naturalization?

Examples of urgent trip that's worth keeping (my subjective view):

- Death or funeral of a close family member

- Spouse giving birth

- Urgent medical appointment that cannot be postponed

- Multi-million dollar deal

 

Everything else can wait IMHO.

 

The danger of not attending is your naturalization can be derailed.

Unfortunately I can't cancel the plans I am currently out of the country already and can't just buy a ticket a week out.

Got it... Well, I would do everything to be there, a week is reasonable time to get back even if you have to travel through multiple countries.

 

If IO didn't honor your request, there's a very slim chance any Tier 1 / Tier 2 can help rescheduling in such short time.

My wife was approved in early January.  The USCIS officer was great and understood that we were traveling overseas 2 weeks after the interview.  She noted on my wife's record that she should be scheduled after 2/13, but advised us to keep an eye on her online account to make sure those instructions were followed.  Two days before we left, we saw online that she was scheduled for a 1/31 oath ceremony.  USCIS lists pre-planned travel as one of the reasons for rescheduling, so we followed the instructions on the ceremony letter.  We sent back the ceremony letter, included airline e-ticket copies, and a letter explaining why we wanted to reschedule to the local USCIS office.  We asked to be rescheduled any day after 2/13.  Within days of sending the letter, her online account showed her 1/31 ceremony was canceled and reverted to "will be scheduled."  On 2/13 (the day we said she'd be available again), the local office rescheduled for a March ceremony.
