Interview stage: will I get a 221g if I bring full tax return + W2 instead of tax transcript?

Like the question says. I want answers from personal experience or from reading any discussions here on VJ.

Our tax transcript probably won't be available by the time of the interview, so keep that in mind.

If they do accept tax return (1040) + W2, should I bring other forms like state tax, form 8889 (health savings account), form 1099-INT (interest income), and form 8879 (authorization for e-return), or are the 1040 + W2 enough for purposes of the affidavit of support?

I would take the complete 1040 package......You do not need state tax forms.

That is correct, but it is likely you'll get a 221g anyway, unless you upload the latest tax return or transcript to CEAC before the interview.

I plan to upload everything to CEAC before the interview but my question is if I’ll get a 221g because the CO might prefer a transcript?

No.  They know it takes months for a transcript to be available.  As you read "instructions" pay attention to the little words and know the difference between and & or.

It’s not that I haven’t read the instructions, it’s that COs ask for what they ask for. The NVC instructions say you don’t need to bring financial documents to the interview if you’ve submitted them on CEAC. In reality people get 221g if they don’t in US Embassy Amman. So I’m looking for personal experience.

OK.  My nuanced answer is that nobody can tell you in advance, what a specific nuanced Consular Officer will do in any given circumstance.  But, if the applicant has the documentation needed AND it's already uploaded, AND a Tax Return Transcript is not yet available, then you can know without nuance, that everything that COULD BE DONE, has been done.

Not really asking what a specific CO will do, just trying to see if there’s hope of tax returns being accepted at the interview. I’ve seen evidence to the contrary, but I’m inviting anyone with a positive experience to share.

As with  many questions, it depends on the actual circumstances.  If the reason you are supplying a perfectly acceptable, complete copy of a US Federal Tax Return with W2s, 1099s, etc., BECAUSE it was too recently filed for a Tax Return Transcript to be available, then you have EVERY reason to expect it to be accepted, UNLESS it's because of what a specific CO did that is out of the ordinary.

That does add nuance, thanks!
