Request to Reschedule Oath Taking

Hello Everyone,

Happy Friday! I just want to check with VJ's who may have experienced rescheduling their OathTaking?

Just to give you a glimpse of why I wanted to reschedule - my 2 minor children will be doing their interview next week  (daughter 1) and 2nd week of February (daughter 2).  I am wondering if it is possible to request my oath taking together with my 2 children? (Granting they pass the interview - Praying that they will).

Had anybody here been able to request for their oath taking to be rescheduled?

Thank you,

Dee

Do you mean citizenship interview for your minor children?  Are your children under 18 years old?

[EDIT]  I just saw your previous thread.  You mean N-600 interview for your children, not N-400, right?  If so, your children's N-600 will be denied if you do not take your US oath before their N-600 interview.  The basis for their citizenship is your own US citizenship, so if you are not a USC then neither are they.

I agree with @Chancy, you need to be a citizen first.  Also, if the children are under 14, they may not be required to take an oath.

Good Luck!

What happens if USCIS approves my Form N-600?

If USCIS approves your Form N-600, USCIS will issue you a Certificate of Citizenship. If you are over 14 years of age, you will be scheduled to appear at a USCIS office to take the Oath of Allegiance if the Oath of Allegiance ceremony is not conducted on the same day as the interview.  If you are under the age of 14, you may not be required to take the Oath of Allegiance.

Correction-older children (over 20 year old - not minor)

Thanks for the correction.  Yes, you may ask for a re-schedule.  Note that there is no guarantee that USCIS will schedule all 3 of you for the same oath ceremony.  You may ask nicely to be scheduled together, but there is a risk that you and your daughters may still not take the oath together.

Scary to do that

USCIS may reschedule you for a later date. If you miss the ceremony two times without an explanation, USCIS will take steps to deny your application.

Explanation like weather did not permit or accident or illness ,  a good reason

You can try to reschedule but like someone previously mentioned, there is no guarantee that your request will be granted. It might just be a waste of time. Also, during the interviews they will ask your daughters if either of their parents are U.S citizens. It will be helpful to their cases if you naturalize before their interviews so that they can answer that at least you are a USC now. During my interview, the IO asked if my parents were U.S citizens and I told her that they are now since they naturalized the year before me. I guess she looked it up on her computer to confirm and she nodded her head. I don't know if one of the reasons of me passing my interview on the spot was because of that but it sure was helpful!

Good luck whatever you decide to do!
