unpaid parking tickets

so this is kind of an out there queston but when my fiance was here for his J1 visa he got a few parking tickets from the hospital where we worked. they arent even city tickets. well he forgot to pay them i didnt think that this would be a big deal but i was wondering if anyone had a similar situation with parking tickets and if you think it affect our visa at all. would something so minor even show up on the backround checks???

Probably nothing will happen but depending on the amount - especially if they run into hundreds of dollars - the hospital administration can attach his state tax refund in some states (Colorado is one.) Yes parking tickets, court ordered payments, child-support, student loans etc. can all come back and get your refund! And as someone said - why not just pay them? Good Luck

LOL very funny everyone. i know i told him to pay them but he doesnt seem to think that its that important if he does cuz everyone we work with gets these tickets and no one pays them back and nothing ever happens!! i will probably just pay them for him. it isnt that many but i figured i would just ask. Thanks for the laughs!!

Makes me wonder if this will create a problem at some later point if he thinks just because everyone else ignores the laws with no consequence, it's ok for him to ignore them also.

He is misinformed. Many states use a device called 'The Denver Boot' that immobilizes your car (after a certain amount of fines -parking tickets etc. that have not been paid.) You can get your car back only after you pay your fines plus a pretty penny (or a dirty hudred dollar bill)! Causes very big headaches for a few days till you get your car back. He shouldn't be so nonchalant about laws - look where Al Capone ended up - just for not paying taxes on his (illegal) income! Good Luck

yeah he paid his other ones from the city (parking is horrible in CLEVELAND) cuz they will put a hold on your registration here in ohio and he paid those but just didnt really think to pay the others and now we just thought about it. i was just wondering mostly if parking tickets show up on your backround check at all. i was more curious about that. i am just gonna have to go and pay them.
